How do you guys respond to the phone ringing when you dealing with a customer in their home ?. I missed two jobs today by not answering the phone right away, the first one I called back within 10 minutes and the lady said she already picked someone else and the second one I called back within 5 minutes and was told that she did not need any further quotes.

The caller is just looking for quote most of the time anyway. If it is a repeat customer they will leave a voice mail. I do call back when I get the time.
You can always have your voice mail reflect that you are with a customer and will return the call asap.June 5, 2009 at 1:49 pm #153611AnonymousInactiveDitto Gary. My voicemail actually says please leave a message and we’ll call you back within 5 minutes. People are impressed when you do call them back within 5 mins.
June 6, 2009 at 5:24 pm #153612AnonymousInactiveI always call them right back but still lose jobs, I like Dave’s idea about saying I will call back within 5 minutes. I will change my message and see if it works better for me.

A repeat customer will leave a message. They know they will get a great job performed if they have a little patients. The customer your speaking to is worth money. Your building a rapport, and it would be rude and thoughtless to ask them to hold for another call.
Most people know they have to “Leave a message” for the carpet cleaner.
People are very surprised when a cleaner actually answers their phone.
Particularly in today’s “techno” environment. If you have a stain, Please press 1.
If you have a pet, Please press 2.
If you want me to waste more of your time, Please press 3.

If you would like to speak to a live person, Please call Heaven’s Best.June 20, 2009 at 2:30 pm #153614pachecoParticipantPersonally, if someone will not leave a mesage, I most probably do not want them as a customer. Since the first month or so in business, I have not been answering hardly any calls that do not have a phone number displayed and if I do, I answer and ask them to leave their number so I could call them back in a feew minutes.
My experience has been that the no number calls have been 96-98% either shoppers or competition or telemarketers. New customers who do leave a number, I call back immediately and 90++% of the time close them.
Just my experience in Lancaster County, PA for the past 6 years.
May 12, 2010 at 4:11 pm #153615shubamsjiMemberduring the busy months my wonderful wifes takes the calls which is a huge help, but when it slows down in the winter i take them, however my cell is forwarded to my wifes cell. that way if i am on the phone, or talking to a customer, or miss the call while vacuuming then the customer can still talk to a live person and get questioned answered. we keep a double schedual, on digital that i carry and one paper that my wife keeps, but one could probably just use your significant other as a message service till you can call them back.
