I’m with you Matt, if I fail, I don’t charge. The result is a customer for life along with all thier friends.
May 11, 2006 at 5:32 am #145990AnonymousInactivePrecisely! I take the same approach with the 8oz spotter bottle. Some try to increase their average ticket by selling them. We just give them away. My theory is that we’ll make so much more $$ in the long run by doing this than by selling them.
May 11, 2006 at 3:06 pm #145991Larry youngParticipantI leave a small spotter and a bussiness card on the nicer rentels, and give a large spotter to my new clients, but if they don’t save the bottle for me to fill, then they will get charged, if they would like another.
May 12, 2006 at 12:04 am #145992AnonymousInactiveGive the small ones away on our Franchise Express flyers coupon
Sell the Lg ones(mostly) but refill them for free for as long as you are my customer.
May 12, 2006 at 12:29 am #145993AnonymousInactiveI give the smaller ones away because if they’ve used the majority of it then it’s probably because they need the carpet cleaned. This way I’ll get them calling me back sooner than they normally would.
May 12, 2006 at 3:38 am #145994AnonymousInactiveWe also give the small ones away, plus a spot/spill chart, for free for many reasons. First, we don’t approve of any of the store brands because of the residue they leave plus the fact they often set stains in. Then, WHEN we come back to clean again, we know exactly what has been used on any problem spots that may still exist. Second, with the chart in hand, you give your customer a way to address small spills without ruining their carpet. Third, it is just one more way to keep your name in front of your customer. We put labels with our name, phone number and city on every bottle and chart.
We tell customers we will refill the small bottle for free once in between cleanings (for our really good customers, we do more than one) and if they are continually running out, that’s an easy way to sell them a large spotter, which we also refill for free. Any refill trip is fit into OUR schedule, not theirs. We call them in advance when we are going to be in their part of town next and have them set the bottle outside their door that day.

It’s like you are reading my mind!!
May 13, 2006 at 4:21 am #145996AnonymousInactiveI give away a large spotter to nearly all of my new customers. Some I prefer not to leave a reminder of who I am. I always offer free refills when I am there to clean but in-betweens are $5. I also give large spotters to potential “good” customers. These are the friends or relatives that may be at the house where I’m cleaning. Or, I leave an extra one and ask my “good customer” to pass it on to a friend or relative in Ferris’s area.(ya right!). I think I have given away over 500 large spotters. I too, stick a label on them. Spotters are a great pickle.

May 16, 2006 at 2:12 am #145998Linda OrrKeymasterLike most of you I give away the small bottles and sell the large ones with free refills as long as they keep the bottle. I normally charge $20 for the large spotter bottles and also give them a spotter chart. I give the large ones away when I see an opportunity to advertise, ie. ,beautician, realtor etc.
May 16, 2006 at 10:22 pm #145999AnonymousInactivei give a free large bottle away.i will tell costumer not to ever use the detergant they sell at the store, they say what do i use then.i reply our cleaning solution.they say how do i get it.i say here is afree bottle.next time you call i will fill it up for free. i do not charge ,ever.i also give rakes away when the time is right, also never charge.why? it works very well, and i get referalls and the repeat, refill for free.if i sell the product i pay sales tax,i know its small change but less paperwork.i offer free bottles in some advertising also. if you can charge the premium price why not give them all there money’s worth.only certain costumers get the free spotter though and or rake!p.s. i explain why when they you the store bought stuff and there spot disappears and then returns in weeks or days.caused by residue left behind that acts like a magnet to dust and everything else
