Customer has an odor in their carpet from an area rug. Either the rug, the backing on the rug or the no slip piece between the rug and the carpet has left an odor that is similar to burned rubber. The area rug is long gone but the odor is definitely still there….any suggestions?
Dan, there are some rugs on the market out there usually gun tufted rugs from India that are known to have odor issues that you discribe. Did this rug have a scrim backing (muslin cloth) adhered to the back? If so there is a possibility that it is sour latex that gives the smell of burnt rubber. There is not a known treatment to fix the rug itself so as far as the carpet is concerned if a thourough cleaning and fresh scent can not fix it you may be left with the original problem I described with the rug itself.

dan,
our fresh scent is a very powerful product. i’m not too familiar with what would be causing the odor other than the latex on the back side of the area rug.
remember that if you decide to use fresh scent for a new smell there is no need to use any deodorizer because this fresh scent will overpower any deodorizer. good luck and i hope this helps!
