Anyone else have issues with the plastic base of the nobles buffer cracking where the handle connects? I just had to replace my handle due to a crack and I can’t get the handle off due to another crack in the base. Unfortunately, with their design, the base seems to crack around the threaded insert that connects the handle, and subsequently the threaded insert just spins inside the plastic and the bolt won’t unscrew. I’ve had this happen once before and had to break apart the plastic around the insert to eventually get the insert out. Called Nobles customer service the first time, and they had no advice. Just something to keep an eye out for on your’s. Definitely want to replace the base as soon as you see any cracks. Would love to see Nobles fix this problem as I know of at least one other operator that’s had this issue. At least they have a good warranty.
March 30, 2009 at 3:59 am #153397AnonymousInactiveI had the exact same problem with one of my buffers. I think I used an air impact wrench to remove it. If I remember correctly, I re-glued it in place as a temporary fix. (memory left with my hair). I then ordered another base and handle to keep in stock for future problems. It seems that if you spend the money to stock spare parts, you will never need them. If you don’t have something in stock, it will break!!!
March 30, 2009 at 11:25 pm #153398AnonymousInactiveyes ,6 times in 5 years, its routine for me now.i have three nobles.has happened to all three at least once.one is cracked again.bad engineering to say the least.good luck,i nver have an easy time dismantling these things.i do put some extra stress on these machines at times ,but i don’t think that should cause this repeated cracking.

March 31, 2009 at 11:56 am #153400breelandParticipantLove my Advance buffers, Going on 17 years, with No Problems. Take a licking and keep on ticking. 🙂
March 31, 2009 at 11:21 pm #153401AnonymousInactivewhen they crack its always on the right side, probably from leaning just a little to much repeatedly.must be my bad.sometimes i like to dig it in a little more for traffic areas and what ever else.i be more careful, after all its gonna be the 7th time.im glad i have a sense of humor still,i guess you better in this field.wooooooooo
April 1, 2009 at 12:23 am #153402AnonymousInactiveTim, mine have both been on right too, although first one spread and ended up on both sides. Dennis, I too have an Advance Matador buffer as my backup. Am using it now til my parts arrive tomorrow. FYI, I like the fact that the Advance is all metal. Adds more weight to the buffer for scrubbing purposes. That said, my back really hates that machine because it is all metal and probably at least 20lbs heavier overall. Also, the weight isn’t distributed as evenly as the Nobles both in regards to carrying it and to buffing. Both have pros and cons. For any operators that have bad backs, I recommend the Nobles.

August 5, 2009 at 11:31 pm #153404AnonymousInactivewell one of the nobles cracked last month.it was the one i replaced last year.same place.right side by handle.on the cover not on handle.always right side.i have tried to tone it down a notch when i am operating it but still has cracked.
August 6, 2009 at 1:41 pm #153405AnonymousInactiveAt our State conference couple weeks ago, Big John said Nobles is finally addressing this and is strengthening the week areas. He didn’t have a timeline on when the strengthened parts would be available, but it’s good to hear.
February 1, 2011 at 2:18 am #153406AnonymousInactiveYes i have had to replace two handles and one base in about 3 or 4 years.
February 8, 2011 at 12:34 am #153407AnonymousInactivei as of today still replace them about once a year
February 9, 2011 at 4:15 am #153408AnonymousInactiveJust finished replacing my handle and base 3 weeks ago as both were bad. This is the 3rd handle and the 2nd base. Lucky for me it isn’t difficult to swap out, just takes some time. I also made the motor cover look better by giving the whole thing a light sanding to blend the heavy nicks and scratches a bit (looks really bad after I did this) and then used a propane torch to lightly melt it a bit. Too much and it gets burned looking. I cleaned it up with a good rubbing of mineral spirits and then gave it a couple of good doses of Armor All. That seemed elmininated most of the remaining imperfections with the exception of the large scratches and gouges. It is not perfect by any means but a lot better looking than it was. I felt the cost of a new cover was too much and opted to do it this way.
