I cleaned for a guy today who only wanted his master bedroom cleaned. He said the carpet was about 2 years old, but had a real noticeable traffic pattern thru the room to the bathroom. I tried HB 101 with 2 oz of orange doderizer, 1 scoop of quick boost. Didn’t lessen the stain. I tried Pro-Spotter, but still no luck. This quy works at a printing press. I suspect this pattern is printing ink comming off his shoes. Any ideas how to remedy this?
If you’ve determined that this is not wear, I have in rare instances put a sprayer on my dry solvent. I’d spray a small area and buff right away. Follow with our 101 cleaner. If this is a vast area, this would not be practical but it sounds like a fairly small area. Give it a try and see what you think.
Is the path to his bedroom from the garage/front door all hard surfaces? If it is, may want to take a slightly damp towel and wipe random spots along that path and see what you get up, and if you do get something does it possibly match the bedroom soiling. Have also done the same as Mr Ferris before. If attempted, make sure windows are open and you are getting lots of fresh air. May want to test a very small area first before going forward with it. Also can try putting a spray head to your ink remover. Had to do this recently as a landlord had 50-100 mystery ink spots throughout 2 rooms. Sprayed, extracted and buffed. Went through almost 2 bottles of ink remover (one was almost empty and dated 7/2003, just a reminder that if you don’t use something, still make sure you have ample supply because you never know when you may need a lot of it).
Yes, it’s all hardwood floors before you get to the bedroom. He had a sample of the carpet at the bedroom door, just as you come in, it was heavily soiled. I might see if he will loan me this to make some test on.
Great advice Dave…te solvent is NOT SAFE AT ALL!!!! In addition, I believe it might solubulize the adhesives holding the carpet together…Must remove extreme caution
I have been told that the ink they use in newspapers is not ink but instead it’s soy! So I guess if your really hungry go for it!
