as a consumer, I usually ask around if I am spending my hard earned money. I have learned that he biggest ad in the book doesn’t usually equate to the best.
As for the new ads, my ad has been out since August. It is the smallest ad I have run in 7 years, I seem to be getting as many calls and many more comments and some great, high quality customers.Maybe, just maybe, it works like they said it would.
October 21, 2006 at 10:01 pm #146209pachecoParticipantI believe ours hits the streets in January for all three books, 2 YB and 1 Verizon. Good to hear preliminary news. Hope the ads look as good when printed in the books as the proofs.

October 21, 2006 at 11:17 pm #146210HB2003ParticipantI use the yellow pages and ask around myself. I did a quarter page ad in a neighboring city that came out about three months ago and so far I have been getting 3-4 times gross back a month as what it cost me to run the ad. I have a slightly larger size ad that just came out a week ago in the phone book of my main area. Time will tell if that will be worth it.
October 23, 2006 at 4:42 am #146211AnonymousInactiveBrian, you mentioned not wanting to wait for the growth; however I don’t believe that the YP’s is what you are looking for then.
I do not see the Yellow Pages as a source for net income rather a source for “buying” my customers and realizing that my business will be that much more next year from my YP customers this year. I get a lot of tire kickers in my area so my YP numbers are average at best.
October 23, 2006 at 7:31 pm #146212Tx46ParticipantMy Verizon yellow page ad comes out in Nov. I paid $390 month for a quarter page. Since I am a newbie I have no idea of the payback yet after reading the boards I have already incorporated ‘how did you hear about us’ into my initial conversation with customers. I will keep a record and use data to determine next year’s marketing dollars.
I am very happy with my ad and the Verizon team did the design using our new logos. If anyone would like a copy to view – send me an email and I will send attachment.

That’s the right attitude about the yellow pages. If you expect a large net profit, you’ll likely be dissapointed. The customers that we pay for from the yellow pages become less expensive when they become repeat customers.
November 16, 2006 at 5:46 pm #146215FL18ParticipantHey Buddha,
Watch out for verizon. They did a quarter page ad for us at $375 a month. It looked fantastic, I will say that much. However, I received two phone calls off of the ad. Those jobs brought in about $250 bucks. We complained about it and the promises made, sales numbers from the past that showed promise for carpet cleaners in their phonebook, was a bunch of horse puckey. Who know’s maybe it will work for you. I hope and pray that it does. If not, then get your money back. Hope all is well.

November 17, 2006 at 2:33 am #146217hbottumwaParticipantI have found over the 24 1/2 years I’ve been cleaning, the book that will give you the best return is the book most used. Each area may have a different name but a less then the best book will give you less than the best results. Your job is to discover the best book and negotiate the best ad size and price for you and your area.
November 17, 2006 at 3:14 am #146218FL18ParticipantThat’s right Gordon. We did a 3 by 2 inch ad in the “most commonly used” yellow pages and it worked great.

November 18, 2006 at 9:22 pm #146219pachecoParticipantLancaster County, PA has it all geared for making the YB/YP guys money…
The Verizon Yellow book covers the major money areas of the county and there is a Northern and Southern County YB…3 books cover the county!!!
With 450,000 people, in the second or third richest county in PA, we have to be in all 3 or else. Pricey for 1/2 page ads in each, but our slots are #3 in Verizon and 3 or 4 in the other two… By following the new rules and limited bullet points laid out by Cody we are very anxious about the responses fom this next year…Our past ads looked like Ron’s bullet wise…not now!
We shall see the power of a young lady in the ad instead of my son and me.
No comments needed Gordon…
November 19, 2006 at 7:35 am #146220FL18ParticipantIt will work out Dave. Just pray and hang in there. Hope all is well.
