My hope is that once I clean on the Base a few times, they won’t really care what method I use as long as the carpets are clean.
I’ll update once I hear from the Housing Authorities employee. If she dosen’t call within a week, I call her again.
Thanks all!

The reason, you wont have the suction a truck mount will so you really have to go over the area multiple times to remove as much moisture as possible. If you don’t there will be wicking and re-soiling.
A good solution is to run your buffer over the carpets, after using the portable, while they’re still wet. It’s called a “dual process” cleaning. This will help clean a little more thoroughly and remove moisture, speeding up the drying time. I only use this process when I come across trashed carpets that would normally need HWE. I charge more for this process because it takes more time.February 12, 2008 at 6:06 pm #151432AnonymousInactiveLew
It’s pretty tough to be all things to all people or please everyone all the time.
Our products work GREAT. Amazing great. Tony The Tiger great. We can and should have a lot of confidence in our products.
Our system works because our products work.
People want results. They can argue about the method but ultimately they want results.
We can give them results.
They also want to know that you are dependable, trust worthy, professional and fair. The old saying goes, “Sometimes it’s better to live with the devil you know than take a chance on the one you don’t”
You need to prove yourself and your system. We know the system works, you have the hard part and it may not happen quick.Continue to change the focus from the “system” to the “results” and, I think, you will get the result you are looking for.
ps. I am in no way implying that you and the devil are one and the same, although I have no way of really proving that I am prepared to go out on a limb on that one.

I think your ok to go out on the limb Dennis. Hopefully I’ll never be remotely close to being the devil.

Lew is a very good operator and we are very glad that he is part of the business. I have spoken with him personally before I posted this reply on the bulletin board.
We are a low moisture process. We are not steam cleaners. We do have the capability of doing what we refer to as a dual process. Our dual process would be using the Heaven’s Best Upholstery Mate, or Ninja, for some minor extraction such as flushing out a soda pop spill in the carpet, or flushing out an extremely soiled walk way, and then going over the area with our regular low moisture cleaning system. The area that was cleaned using the dual process would take longer to dry and may encounter some of the same problems that a HWE system produces such as extended dry times, high probability of a wicking problem, the potential for mold or mildew growth, and/or a brown out situation.
I have a real problem with a Heaven’s Best operator telling a customer that we do Hot Water Extraction. Yes there are some jobs that we will lose because the customer wants a HWE system. We are not a HWE system and I do not want our operators telling the customer otherwise.
The benefit of our process is the fact that we can have a carpet dry in one hour. Our system works very well on most spot and soil conditions. A HWE system can also do a good job if the operator is good. The big difference is the drying time. A short drying time has many benefits. Part of what we do as a Heaven’s Best operator is to educate our customers on the benefits we offer. We all try to run our business with honesty and integrity.
My suggestion for Lew would be to do the demonstration for his contact at the base, using the normal Heaven’s Best process. Explain to the customer that we only use the flush out extraction method where a spill has occurred. Let the customer know that you use deodorizers and disinfectants in order to sanitize the carpets during and after the cleaning process.
If Lew does try to clean the carpet using the Heaven’s Best Upholstery Mate, or the Ninja, the contact on the base will not use him as a cleaner. A truck mount system will do a better job than the portables on a full HWE cleaning, and our operators do not have much experience using a HWE system. The only chance Lew has of convincing his contact to use him is to show a superior cleaning process with a very fast drying time. He should also point out that our system is better for the environment than a HWE system. We use electricity to power our equipment which is a cleaner source of energy. We only use about one tenth of the water as a HWE system. Heaven’s Best is working in conjunction with the LMCCA to be recognized as a “green” system.
We do not need to try to be everything to everyone. We have a great cleaning system and process, with products that work very well. As we do our demonstration and education for the customer we will be able to sway some former HWE lovers to embrace our system. We have a unique niche in the carpet cleaning industry. We encourage each of you to use the system the way it was intended. Be honest and upfront with your customers and you will be successful.

Some days more than others.
Today was one of those “more than others” days.
Life is good.

August 7, 2008 at 10:08 pm #151436AnonymousInactiveWe’ll it only took 6 months but I have finally been given the green light to clean on the 29 Palms Military base when they move from their homes/apartments. I did my last demonstration for them on January 8th, 2008.
Every time I had a job on base (I could clean for them, just not on move-out inspections, where most of the business is) I stopped by their office. Of course the boss was always in a “meeting” but I left my business card with a note on the back every time. Also found that they have a new boss. I wasn’t able to meet with her either but I’ve sent a couple folders with my info enclosed to her over the last month and a half.
On August 6, I stopped by again. Her assistant when to her bosses office, came back and said that when they move out “It’s their deal” who cleans the carpets. Not sure why she didn’t say this back in January but she indicated that the new boss wasn’t such a pain in the rear.
All is good.Lew
