Look and guess?
Tape Measure?July 10, 2013 at 3:06 pm #155886AnonymousInactiveTraditional tape measure is #1. We charge per sq ft and only for area we are truly cleaning, so if no furniture, we subtract that out, so tape measure is easiest. Laser tape measure could work in vacant rooms, but we still use traditional. They do make tape measures with large numbers for those that have dimishing eyesite. We have a wheel for measuring out large commercial.

July 12, 2013 at 1:53 am #155888KY13ParticipantI charge per room. Don’t know how you sq.ft guys do it. Seems to me like it takes so much time measuring and calculating numbers. Takes me 5 minutes to walk around a property and write up an estimate (I use a rolla-tape for show. Things been broken for years).

BTW?
Before Taiwan?July 15, 2013 at 2:45 pm #155890AnonymousInactiveWe only measure and charge by sq ft for commercial work. Residential we charge by area, to me it is much easier to give someone a quote(noting that it is an ESTIMATE) over the phone by asking what areas they would like. “We have a living area, and three bedrooms” ” Ok that would be $xxx, would you like protectent applied? and so on. I generally ask the total sq ft of there house, that can give you a good idea of the room sizes. As far as measuring I use a roller from Lowes. Never could get a good handle on the digitape from HB store.

July 16, 2013 at 9:20 pm #155892AnonymousInactiveI use the company supplied electronic measuring device. Works well with most rooms. Exceptions are extremely long halls and rooms. Then I measure from middle of room and add together.
July 17, 2013 at 8:47 am #155893AnonymousInactiveWe use a Bosch laser measuring device. It’s accurate enough, and will measure large rooms and long hallways. It’s very dependable and calculates square footage automatically. We mainly use this on commercial properties.
July 24, 2013 at 6:51 pm #155894AnonymousInactiveI use rolling measure ( $20.00 – $25.00 in Lowe’s/Home Depot) for commercial only. I don’t measure residential, I charge per room. In and out within 15 min or so.
July 29, 2013 at 11:17 pm #155895AnonymousInactiveBy the way
August 1, 2013 at 2:22 am #155896AnonymousInactiveWe us a tape on almost all residential jobs. Larger commercial jobs are measured with a roller. I could never get the ‘device’ to be consistent for me. We charge by the square foot. To me this is the fairest to all and the most consistent.
