After cleaning a stain left by laundry soap this week, I noticed the carpet was discolored and actually looked bleached from the stain. The lady wasn’t home at the time and I was unable to ask her more about the soap that was spilled. The only conclusion I came to was that there may have been bleach in the detergent that caused the discoloration. I know some of the newer detergents have a bleach additive, has anyone else ran into this, and do you have any good recommendations for rinsing soap out. What a pain in the butt, took forever rinsing until I stopped seeing suds.

About 4 to 6 ozs. per gallon should be strong enough. I always rinse with fresh water to finish. I have seen detergent bleach or permanently stain carpet.

It’s a PH ballance thing.

If they spill a lot of liquid soap that is meant to suds up a lot (see shampoo, laundry detergent, etc.), and it gets into the pad, you can spend hours trying to get it all out to no avail. If you are going to attempt it, agree with the OD/Water route. If a lot was spilled, make sure it is dry and you may want to attempt to remove mainly what was spilled on the carpet fibers themselves (i.e. don’t oversaturate).

In training we were told that it may cause brown out though. I have found hands down that the best way to clean up liquid soap is to mix about 2 tablespoons of DEFOAMER with about 2 cups of water and totally saturate the area. I have amazing results every time. As for the bleach problem, I have never run into that type of thing. It may be that you are seeing a cleaner spot than the surrounding carpet.
