I have just decided to order a new vacuum and it won’t be a @#$%^#@ Hoover…. These are true piles of @#$%. The bag is the most undeveloped, unsanitary, awkward pile I have ever come in contact with…
I just found said pile on the net for half price and still won’t buy it…The bag clips came undone and blew @#$% everywhere on a job today…It’s a good thing it was in a low end rental property…I had just finished one of my high end customers the job before…There are better and cheaper vacs out there and I intend on buying one…July 31, 2008 at 11:57 am #152442AnonymousInactiveCalm down Gary.
I have changed my vac over from the dirt-cup assembly to the paper bag insert. I love it and the vac does a great job.August 1, 2008 at 3:57 am #152443AnonymousInactiveGary,
I can understand you being upset if some of your equipment is not working properly. We have used the Hoover Conquest for many years and it has proven to be a good vacuum cleaner. Yes at times a part will break on it and that part will need to be replaced. The vacuum can be repaired. There are things that I do not like about the conquest, but we have tried a lot of other vacuums and for our application we have not found anything that works better all things considered. As with any piece of equipment it does require some upkeep. You may want to give me a call tomorrow and we can discuss what part you may need to get the vacuum working properly.August 1, 2008 at 5:20 am #152444NJ05ParticipantI am out of state for the next 8 days on vacation. I did not want to down play HB in any way I want to down play the conquest vac. the retainer clips broke( the ones that hold the bag on) and the bag blew off and made a huge mess, the dirt cup clips have broken a few times as well and made messes. I really am not interested in converting to a paper bag. I change my belts on a regular basis and replace the beater bar etc. etc. I am certain I can find a vacuum that will perform as well as the conquest, I will repair it but am through using it as a part of my equipment. Thank you for your reply cody, it is good to know you watch the board.
August 1, 2008 at 12:33 pm #152445AnonymousInactiveI feel your pain Gary with those dirt cup clips. But overall this is a very good vacuum, I have had mine 6 years now, think about that a vacuum that last 6 years with only minor problems.
August 2, 2008 at 3:03 am #152446pachecoParticipantAlmost exactly 5 years ago I went to the local vacuum sales/repair store (3) locations…they sell them all, or so I thought. I went in and looked around, saw everything under the sun but no Conquest.
A salesman came up to see how he could help me and I asked him about the Conquest. He got a little grin on his face and I asked what that was for? He said that they carried them many years ago, but not now. I asked wy not and he replied that they were the most reliable and sturdy machine on the market and built like a tank….and almost never needed repair.
We have 5 years on my machine and 3 on Dan’s with zero…ZERO problems.
Wish you the best on a replacement, but I think you might be better off buying a NEW Conquest and fixing the other one and keep as a backup.
August 2, 2008 at 12:40 pm #152447AnonymousInactiveI had my first conquest for 8 years. Had to rebuild most of it at one time or another. Still works fine, but replaced it last year. I think it is as good of a piece of equipment as we have.
August 3, 2008 at 2:16 pm #152448AnonymousInactiveConquest has bee an awsome vac for 5 years now. I have constantly picked up additional amounts of soil after customer said that they have already vacuumed with their Dyson, Oreck, Rainbow, etc. This vacuum has mistakenly sucked up nails, screws, rocks, push pins and anything else not intended to be vacuumed. I have also broke a clip but due to being in such a hurry and using excessive force.
Best wishes,
Ed H.August 3, 2008 at 8:51 pm #152449pachecoParticipantWe never broke clips, but emptying the contents of the cup is a nasty thing..very nasty. We changed out to bags a couple of years ago and am soooo happy we did. neater and easier with no mess of any kind and the bags are cheap at WalMart. Even the hypo allergenic bags are cheap on EBay.
We too have vacuumed after all the rest and am amazed at the suction and capture of debris and hair of the Conquest.
Hope this is helpful.

Agree that the bag system on the Hoover is a pain. Outside of that though, the thing is a tank. Mine has been beat to heck and still kicking. I try to get it “tuned up” every year or two at local vac shop. Love the fact I can fix most issues with it (which are few and far between) quickly on the job with nothing more than a screwdriver.
Just curious how much those of you that have switched to the other bags are spending on them each year? I still see myself changing them out at least 1-2 times a day and that cost in my eyes adds up fast unless someone has concrete math to prove me otherwise.
August 7, 2008 at 3:17 am #152451AnonymousInactiveWalmart bags: 3 for .97
cost per bag: .32.34 each
Work days per month: 20-21
2 conquests all day long: 25 bags total (Maximum)
Total cost: $8.09 (per month)Time spent cleaning bags up. Dust in the shop. Dust puffing from the bag whenever you touch it on something. The disposable setup is a no-brainer for me. I love the set up.
Even if you used 50 bags, it would only cost $16.17!
August 8, 2008 at 4:50 pm #152452AnonymousInactiveI have used the hoover for 21 yrs . yes a little dust still one of the best
only broke 1 clip in 21 yrs just know not to pull them into a U shape and last a long time.
I like mine.August 10, 2008 at 9:31 pm #152453NJ05ParticipantO.K. Back from ground zero now,,What is intailed in the bag conversion??
I don’t have a problem with the thing being a tank…it always works well but that dirt cup….and the outer bag…..and those clips, Hoover really has to do better with that. I would consider changing to the paper bag type but I will use it at home…not on my jobs.August 11, 2008 at 11:59 am #152454AnonymousInactiveSo, the items that bother you are the dirt-cup, the outer bag and the clips. You would consider converting to the paper bag assembly but you don’t know what that entails. You agree that the conguest does a great job but without knowing what the bag conversion will do for you, you have made up your mind that you will no longer use the conquest for cleaning jobs. FYI – the paper bag assembly has no dirt cup, has no clips and the outer bag is not used as a filter like the cup assembly does; therefore, outer bag dust is not an issue. Would you now consider consider keeping the conquest in your van or would you be willing to sell it for $100 ?
August 19, 2008 at 1:45 am #152455NJ05ParticipantI did’nt want a lecture I just wanted an answer to my question which you avoided quite nicely. And yes, come and get it for $100
