I’m sure many of you have encountered this problem. How do you rid a house of the smell of cigarette smoke? Whenever I get this question, I always inform the customer that all aspects of the home that have been in contact with the smoke (which is airborne) need to be cleaned, including walls, hard floors, air ducts, etc. This sometimes means more than just wiping down the walls and instead sealing the walls with a product like Kilz (paint is porous by nature and just repainting will not work). If that has all been done, what do you do to try and remove the smell from the carpet? In my opinion, we have 3 products that are geared towards this in one way or another. Orange deodorizer, Final Step, and Fresh scent. Which one do you use, why do you use it, and how do you apply it (add it to 101 cleaner, apply separately from a spray bottle, etc)? Or do you try something different? I know sometimes the situation is a lost cause, but looking for opinions.

I have seen products like “de-smoke” solution online and in my local supply store. I assume these products would work if applied as directed.
I had the “perfect storm” of odors the other day, cigarette smoke on top of wet dog on top of dog urine. I could have spent all day with my UM trying to suck all the yuk out of that carpet. I used enzyme on the visible urine spots and pulled all the urine I could detect out with the UM.
For the rest of the room, I dumped a considerable amount of solution on the carpet and buffed the crap out of it, however it still had a not-so-nice aroma. I felt bad “covering it up” with fresh scent since It seemed like a temporary fix.
Thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

The story goes something like this, The operator went in the motorhome an set up a vaporizer with Fresh Sent in it. 24 Hours later the smoke smell was gone. I remember this story because a few years ago, I have a close friend in NH that has a large time share resort complex. one morning we were having coffee together when he said, he had a smoker in a NON- SMOKER timeshare unit for a week and now he can not rent it out because it smells of cigarette smoke, I told him if he buys the vaporizer I would supply the Fresh Sent. He said it worked, although like you said, it probably just “masked” the problem but, the bottom line is he rented the room with no complaints. Also I have great neighbors in NH that are trying to sell their home, they are both smokers, anytime their agent calls and tells them they are having a showing at such a time, they quickly call me and ask me to come over and spray Fresh Scent on carpet and furniture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
