Recently got schooled on the dyeing process at our Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri meeting. I think it’s a pretty cool thing to do but I’ve got a few questions. My 1st job after training was in a NICE BIG house. I was trying to hide the bleach stains from her mother in-law on new carpet. 😯
When I was done and left it looked fair. Not as good as I would like though.
One of my questions is; how do you know when your shade is right?
It’s hard to judge your wet and dyed carpet against the dry carpet.
Then when you’re done, do you just lightly mist the Color Set?Thanks! 😀
Carpet dying takes practice and patience. With time you will develop an eye for the color. First, when dealing with bleach, make sure to neutralize the bleach COMPLETELY or the dye will not take (learned this the hard way). It will look great day-one but the color will fade within a day or two. Add a little color at a time so that you don’t over-color and go too dark. A hair dryer comes in handy to dry the dyed carpet in between coats so that you can get a better look at the “final” dry color.
I’ve been at this for a year now and I’m still working on getting a job to match perfectly. I typically get anywhere between a 80 to 90% match and my clients are usually thrilled with the results.
Yes – a final misting with the color set will do the trick.
To help with matching the carpet since it is wet with the color dye, spray water on an area close to where the spot you are dying is. Just make sure to remember which wet spot is the one you are dying and the one that is just wet from water.
