Just curious if anyone has stopped shopping at Home Depot since they “own” our competition (Chem Dry)? Finishing up year end tax stuff and I saw on the bottom of a Home Depot receipt “Carpet Cleaning by Chem Dry is available through Home Depot” and it made me think….maybe I should start shopping at Lowes. Not suggesting a company wide boycott (I really like Home Depot), just wondered if anyone had taken this into consideration when choosing where to shop.
February 19, 2007 at 8:12 pm #148887chez6996ParticipantI sure have!!!!!!!!! The one problem my partner and I have (I own 50% of G&S Construction Corp.) is Home Depot is less than 2-miles from our shop, Lowe’s is 20+ miles away, but it “erks” me no end when I’m in that store in the tile and carpet section and see there ads and flyers all over the store!!!!!! Not sure what to do!!! Maybe with a little luck and more Franchise sales, we can make Home Depot Rethink the purchase of Chem-Dry by X CEO Nardelli !!!!!!
Ron’February 19, 2007 at 9:42 pm #148888Tn02ParticipantI agree, I don’t shop there.
February 20, 2007 at 12:31 am #148889pachecoParticipantI guess that whoever would not shop at Home Depot because they own Chem Dry doesn’t shop at Sears since they also clean lots of carpets?
Personally, I don’t mind showing off my logo on my jacket or sweater or shirt and advertise right next t theirs, in their own store. Or having my van seen in their parking lot…I once got a call from someone in the HD parking lot as I was inside the store.
That’s my 2 cents worth. Now let’s spend some time figuring out how to market our businesses for greater profits…
February 20, 2007 at 1:19 am #148890chez6996ParticipantYou shop at Home Depot and Sears!!!!!
I’ll let them earn my money at Lowe’s and J.C. Penney!!!!February 20, 2007 at 2:13 am #148891CJonesParticipantI’m with you on that one!! I always shop at Lowes…… However, let’s just hope Lowe’s doesn’t get aggressive in their competitiveness and try to buy out Heaven’s Best!!!! Stay put Cody!!!! We need you!!!
February 20, 2007 at 2:24 am #148892FL18ParticipantI agree with all of you; to a certain extent. Just because you shop there doesn’t make you a trader to Heaven’s Best. Honestly, they will see and will rethink I believe. I shop at the Depot becuase of the issue of distance compared to Lowes. What I have done is that when I see someone with one of those “flyers” or looking to buy carpet, tile for some, then I give them a card and guarantee my price and service will be better. I know I can beat their price becuase if you call that number on the reciept, they will give you the price for however many rooms. I called and asked about 3 rooms and regardless of size and condition, it was $150.00. I charge $105.00 for 3 rooms and all the extras are included like pet stain removal, heavy duty stains, odor, etc. The unknowledgeable operator on the other end of the line just gave me the 150 price for the 3 rooms but could not tell me how much with pet stains, deoderization, disinfecting, etc. She said they could tell me this when they get there. I said no thanks. See guys, no worry on the Home Depot thing. Other than the call center customer service lady with no idea on how to clean a carpet, the menu is very hard to get through. When I called I went through all the menus manually and by voice activation and had to call back 3 times before I got someone from the “chem dry” part of Home depot. So, chill out, don’t worry, they can’t hang. That is why they got bought out. I have a question from you guys though. I noticed today, as the new phone books came out today, that the 2 chem drys here in south Tex have local numbers and seem to operate on an individual basis. So did Chem Dry buy the name or the franchise as a whole? Help me out on this one.
God Bless,
MikeFebruary 20, 2007 at 2:26 am #148893FL18ParticipantCody had no intention on selling us. I can’t speak for him tomarrow but I know that is not the plan. We are a privately owned company and don’t need Giant Corporate America Stock Brokers telling us what to do. That is my opininion on the subject Jeff.

February 20, 2007 at 4:42 am #148894AnonymousInactiveI will still shop at whichever is most convenient, but was curious if this had effected anyone’s purchasing decisions. I spend so little at Home Depot and the others that me changing my spending patterned won’t affect their bottome line……I don’t think my yearly total spent would even pay for a single tank of gas for the car they sponsor for Nascar.
February 20, 2007 at 5:40 pm #148895chez6996ParticipantAfter the Daytona 500, They need more than a tank of gas. Chem-Dry would have looked good on the hood of that #20 car!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 21, 2007 at 12:07 am #148896ON02ParticipantYEAH YOU ARE RIGHT RON THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO SEE THAT CAR GAT CRUNCHED!!!!!
February 21, 2007 at 12:55 am #148897pachecoParticipantI think I would rather go head on against Chem Dry as a competitor in the marketplace than the multitude of DIY machines that HD and Loews, Penney’s. Sears and WalMart sell…directly to the public for the price of cleaning 3-4 rooms. Just as with Chem Dry, we get to clean up after them as well. By the way, the local Lowe’s rents Rinse n’Vacs for the DIYer…
Personally, I could care less about the supposed competition and have never given them much notice. Have seen their ads once in a while…their pricing has not affected me at all. I chuckle or laugh at most of the ads I have seen, since we have been the beneficiary of their past customers…each and every one of them.
February 21, 2007 at 3:55 am #148898AnonymousInactiveI’m with you Mr. Dilts. I pay little to no attention to my so-called competitors, other than their crappy looking vans. I’m sure they scrath their heads trying to figure out how I charge as much as I do. What they don’t understand is the huge difference in quality. That is understandable as they have never actually seen “Heaven’s Best” in action.
February 21, 2007 at 5:05 am #148899NJ05ParticipantI Own some HD stock and I try not to shop there, not because of the chem dry thing but because of the store size. I have yet to go in to One and filled my list, they are too big…. When you need help with something you can’t find help and when you don’t need help you get every employee they have wanting to help..hdsux
February 21, 2007 at 12:23 pm #148900pachecoParticipantI agree Gary…I usually find what I need between HD-Lowes. Lately though I discovered a farmers hardware store in Lancaster county….they remind me of Vonnegut’s in Indianapolis when I was a kid. The writer, Kurt Vonnegut was born and raised in Indy and his family owned a number of hardware stores that were awesome. They had everything and one was caddy corner to my dad’s office. I got spoiled by that store…nothing had ever measured up until I discovered Paul B Zimmerman’s.
I challenge everyone to locate one of these places. They service the needs of the farmer/rancher and have everything you can imagine in there and service is off the charts. They treat me like family.
