!!!!! USE CAUTION GET YOUR TAPE MEASURE OUT AND GET THE HEIGHT OF YOUR GARAGE DOOR. MINE ARE ONLY A 6’8″ DOOR THE NEW VAN IS 81.5″ TALL. SO BEFORE YOU PULL IT IN THE GARAGE YOU BETTER LOOK, BEFORE YOU HEAR IT! I CALLED STEVE AT THE GMC SALES LOT AND ASKED HIM IF 15″ TIRES ARE A OPTION. I TALKED TO A CONTRACTOR AND HE SAID IT IS POSSIBLE TO PUT A HIGHER DOOR IN. JUST THOUGHT I WOULD PASS THIS INFO ON TO PEOPLE WITH 80″ DOORS!!! THE 15″ WHEELS WILL PROBALLY BE OK, BUT MAY MAKE THE VAN LOOK OUT OF PLACE SOME WHAT.

This is a good post. I hope everyone either sees this or does their research. My garage door is too short and garage is not long enough either! Time to move I guess. 😕July 14, 2006 at 3:52 am #147022AnonymousInactiveYes, van size should be considered if you have to garage your vehicle. Our Ford E-150 (2001) will fit in a standard size garage. A GMC and a Sprinter will not in most cases due to height. Also, the GMC is longer than the Ford. I like the GMC better than the Ford, but our situation dictates garaging our vehicle and the GMC cannot fit most garages. Recommend going to manufacturer’s websites or a site like vehix.com to get vehicle dimensions, and also compare vehicle dimensions, if you think this may be a problem for garaging your vehicle. I would think you may be able to lower the GMC as opposed to going with smaller wheels if height is an issue, but I am no car expert.

November 16, 2006 at 7:28 pm #147025kw4662ParticipantMy wife called while I was in Idaho for training to tell me she figured this out the hard way. If you could’ve seen the visuals running through my mind.
Luckily, there’s a short antennae on top of my van that made “a crunching noise” so she stopped before anything bad happened.
She’s not allowed to drive the van anymore.

I was backing my car out of the garage & hit the button to close the door, and through the early morning darkness began to think – hey is that door gonna hit my van?? Well, it didn’t hit it exactly, but scratched 1/2 way down the back door before I hit the button to stop it!! Figured the sensitivity of the door should have reversed it before that would have happened!!! Oh well, I’m hoping the new logo wrap will cover up the scratch!!! Ouch!!!
