Is anybody using a company called guardsman? The sell furniture insurance. When they have a claim they call us and we go clean the piece for 890 dollars an hour if successful or 60 if unsuccessful. I was wondering how you guys charged for travel time. I have a job to do one dining room chair. The chair will take about 15 minutes but the travel will be about 1 hour to the job. When do I start timing for the job. I pay my hourly employees for the ride to the job, but stop when they get in the van for the ride home.

(They were not happy with the local CD at the time). 15-20 min. in and out -$60-80. Scotchgard has something simular.
MattApril 8, 2007 at 1:18 am #149445CO11Participantthe last post should read 80 or 90 dollars an hour. Everyone should be working for the 890 dollars an hour I quoted.
Ha HaApril 8, 2007 at 2:11 pm #149446Gary SpearParticipanthow do you get work with guardsman
April 8, 2007 at 6:00 pm #149447CJonesParticipantCount me in on the $890 per hour! hahahahahaha
April 11, 2007 at 12:02 am #149448CO11ParticipantGuardsman emailed us about doing some work for them. We have booked one job after only one week. If you want more information you can go to http://www.valspar.com. They send you a job you take it or decline it if you are too busy. They then allow you so much time to do a particular job. Our first job is a chocolate spot on a dining room chair. They allow 1 hour for the job. So we will charge 80 if we get it out and 60 if we do not. You will have to have a digital camera of before and after. You only turn in a picture if you do not get the spot out.
JamieApril 13, 2007 at 2:59 pm #149449AnonymousInactiveHow do we get signed on with these guys? Thankx
May 1, 2007 at 2:14 pm #149450CO11ParticipantThe guy who contacted us has the following email. dbaird@valspar.com. Send him an email and see if you can work in your area. He has worked with several Heaven’s Best operators in the past and seems pleased with the work we do. I have done two jobs so far. Both took 15 minutes and they paid us 80 dollars for each. No hassle no problem.

Grant here, down the street from you in Charlotte. I emailed Dennis today and he sent me the technician forms to become a cleaner for them. I filled it out and had it back to him within 1/2 hour. I think this will be a great source for upholstery cleaning as well as upselling the client while we are there with carpet cleaning and other services we provide and of course they will become our future customers as well as Guardsman’s. Thanks for the tip, I think this will be pretty good for me since I have nearly one million people in my area. I’ve asked clients if they would like me to clean their dirty couches and they sometimes tell me that their insurance program from when they bought the sofa would cover it, maybe I’ll still be the one cleaning it for them now.
May 13, 2007 at 6:39 pm #149452AnonymousInactivewe signed on with guardsman and have done a few jobs with them. Whoever is not with them should be it is well worth it. Especially for the monetary value. We did a job today and made $160 for 20 minutes worth of work. Can’t beat it. If more people buy the insurance plan and start damaging their upholstery and do a few jobs a day I’d be a happy man.
Just my 2 cents.
July 29, 2007 at 1:01 pm #149453Dan ChildParticipantDid my first Guardsman Job a week or so back, a ball point pen mark less than 5 inches long. They paid me $80 to get it out and it took me about 10 minutes at the customers home, I included the drive time in the job because submitting 10 minutes of work with them didn’t make sense. They sent me another job but I declined it, description said pet stain on mattress 8 inches or larger. Sounded like a kid stain on mattress and those aren’t worth the one hour limit they gave for the job. If you aren’t with Guardsman/Valspar, hook up with them, it creates customers and work you don’t have to pay advertising for. What’s to lose?
August 1, 2007 at 4:57 pm #149454hbtest9MemberI just did a job with Guardsman and will be making $160 for just under 2 hours removing various, small ink spots from a sectional. It was way easier than I expected and I agree that it’s worth a try for any operator.
August 2, 2007 at 1:48 am #149455HB2003ParticipantGuardsman has been good to me as well. For the most part, they are pretty easy jobs and pay much more than what I would normally get if the customer were paying…
August 2, 2007 at 12:07 pm #149456hbtest9MemberI’ve already received another work order. It looks like it is going to be even easier than the first. They’re looking like they really might be a good way to increase my business.
August 12, 2007 at 5:22 pm #149457HBplantcityflaParticipantI booked and completed my first job about 3 weeks ago. $80 in about 25 minutes. I was wondering though. Are you all charging the most possible? They told me that I could bill up to an hour and a half. I only billed an hour. If you do bill the full amount, how do you justify it. I guess I could just do it by applying a minimum to each job as I would do with regular residential service.
