Good afternoon to all. I will address this to the masses, yet I feel it will be best answered by Cody. With all of the discussion going on about “green cleaning” and generally about the need to save our planet/resources, how does our cleaning solution and method stack up in the industry? Are we in fact a “green cleaner”? Not knowing what exactly is in the cleaning solution gives me pause when this is posed by a client. Thanks.

And given the seal of approval. I think it is safe to tell the customers that our cleaning product is safe; and doesnt use any harmful(caustic)ingredients.
See I still have all 3 fingers on my right hand.
MattApril 18, 2007 at 1:46 pm #149543GA18ParticipantThanks Matt. I would not ever advertise us as such. Am interested, since we say we are “environmentally safe and kid and pet friendly” if we are using a product that would pass the smell test to be considered “green”

June 5, 2007 at 12:10 am #149545HBPuyallupParticipantI have posted this reply before, but don’t know where. I type it again. We know the the 101 is environmentally friendly and safe for pets. This was my wife’s idea. In Fort Collins, CO we can support 3 major natural and organic food stores. We wanted to find out if the 101 was an organic solution or not. I talked to John and asked him the question. He said that he had to look up some words and that he would call me back. He called back and said that it was. We decided to put organic solutions on our yellow page ad. We have had more comments about that particular bullet point than any else. I know that it is not certified organic and I do tell people that. I think when people see a carpet clean up a well as us they wonder how harsh is it. Also dry in one hour I assume they think the same thing. If this is the case I also assume that they see the safe solution and dry in one hour. How can they not book with us. I hope this helps everyone.

June 5, 2007 at 6:38 pm #149547hbabileneParticipantHello, Just wanted to give you my idea that I use in one part of our introduction letter I write: Here at Heaven’s Best we do are part in saving for our Earth by conserving water, by using 90% less water than conventional carpet cleaning systems. Your carpets are never soaked and will dry in about 1 hour! We never use steam, shampoos or chemicals in the cleaning process; our cleaning solution is a water based product. It is safe non-toxic, leaving no sticky dirt residue. Environmentally Safe your carpet will be left clean and fresh smelling.
What your opinion about this do you think it ok.Thanks Rose (Office Receptionist)
June 6, 2007 at 3:10 pm #149548hbottumwaParticipantRose,
I would say “or harmful chemicals”. H2O by definition is a chemical. The rest looks good to me.
June 6, 2007 at 4:04 pm #149549hbabileneParticipantThanks Gordon, I will make some changes
RoseJune 7, 2007 at 2:56 pm #149550hbottumwaParticipantAs I think about it more, I would just remove the word chemical.
People come up with all kinds of fears and concerns over the word “chemicals”. I once had a lady ask “do you use chemicals in your process?” The quick answer came… “none at all compared to the cup of coffee you are drinking.” She had no problem with the answer and neither did I.
On a side note, when I was a cleaner for chem-dry, (15+ years ago) the toughest battle we had, was to over come peoples concern over that word “chemical” from “chem”-dry. It’s great to be “Heaven’s Best”. I hope this helps!June 11, 2007 at 5:21 am #149551Larry youngParticipantYour carpets are never soaked and will dry in about 1 hour! We do sometimes soak the carpets (pet problems and when we extract our specialty prouducts, we steam the red dye removal and wax, and yes we do use chemicals
Definitions of chemical on the Web:relating to or used in chemistry; “chemical engineer”; “chemical balance”
produced by or used in a reaction involving changes in atoms or molecules
of or made from or using substances produced by or used in reactions involving atomic or molecular changes; “chemical fertilizermaybe “our normal cleaning prosess doesn’t
food for thought
PatJune 11, 2007 at 4:48 pm #149552hbottumwaParticipantOkay, I will admit to my lack of knowledge concerning green clean…
The first time someone mentioned green clean I said “no we don’t use the bissell green machine or simple green either.”
Go figure, I’m glad we have this board to help educate each other.
June 11, 2007 at 6:15 pm #149553pachecoParticipantJust FYI…
PCBs are organic and gasoline is organic and every single chemical containing carbon is organic. And the opposite of organic chemicals are inorganic chemicals. This has been discussed before. Our 101 contains both… organic chemicals and inorganic chemicals. Dry Solvent and Citrus booster and many other of our chemicals are organic…not hardly safe nor environmentally friendly.
The way many of us use these chemicals is safe and some, it sounds, handle unsafely.
The way the word organic is used with respect to cleaning chemicals is not really very compatible with our cleaning chemistry. I would caution against using the word organic in any advertising or literature… our chemistry poses an acceptable, very low health risk if used appropriately. And compared to much of the stuff on the market…we are saints.
It would be nice to see something in writing from corporate regarding this issue. I sidestep these landmines people ask pretty well, but it would be nice to have some clarification from Cody to more acceptably answer some of these questions.
Remember…back to the discussion in LV regarding the use of Fabric Protector? Make sure you use a respirator when applying and open windows? Get plenty of ventilation in the room. Cody told us all those very words…How many of us do that?
And Fabric Protector is organic as well…
Be very cautious…you may be speaking with a chemist or someone who knows more than the operator about chemistry… Just my 2 cents, not to cause any commotion…just a few thoughts from moi.

June 11, 2007 at 8:00 pm #149554AnonymousInactiveWe clean for a biological chemist for the gov’t…his basement computer area has 6 video cameras that we have seen and a sign that says any theft from the area is an act of terrorism…….and before I knew his job I tried to answer his question as to what is in our cleaner in technical terms. Let’s just say I now answer that question with a simple it is water and citrus based, it’s environmentally friendly. Keep it simple and if they ask for more, tell them it’s propreitary. Let them know it won’t kill them, but you would not recommend drinking it none-the-less and move on from there. If you want to get more detailed than that for advertising, ask coorporate directly.

OUTSTANDING post. Maybe the best ever. Some great stuff. Cleared up a lot for me.
Organic, Green, non toxic. All just “words” to market products. Funny what makes people feel good and gives them “peace of mind” might not be worth a hill of beans.
Thanks Dave.
