Just my 2 cents on the internet and search engines. SEO people love to say that the phone book (yellow pages) is dying and everyone is using the internet instead now. For the most part I believe this, but my response to them is always this. We never advertised in the phone book because it didn’t bring us our ideal client most of the time (i.e. price shoppers). So, the internet/google are now the new phone book. What type of client are they going to bring me? That said, I do feel a presence on the internet is required in this day and age, but don’t always buy into the hype. Seeing as how there are over 300 carpet cleaners in my area, I am guessing almost all 300 get the same phone calls from the same SEO companies that I get every week. If all of us sign up with a different company, how will all 300 of us fit on the first page of Google? I have tried 3 different SEO companies over the past couple years and have dropped all 3 for lack of results. I’m sure some of the blame could be pointed to me, but ultimately they weren’t bringing in my type of customer. Probably will try one again at some point in time, but not in a hurry to do so. Having an awesome year already this year without them…..
