Does anyone have a gas or diesel generator that they have been using in remote or powerless areas? I have been using a Coleman Powermate 6250 with no problem, however, my customer has been allowing me to borrow and I am wanting to purchase a generator of our own.
I have been doing a lot of business with this customer and it only seems appropriate and right for me to get my own equipment and not keep borrowing theirs. (It would also save me time and dollars in going to them to pick up and return.)
I would greatly appreciate any personal experience that anyone has with another generator or even an inverter with less surge and running watts in order to save purchasing dollars.

DaveDave, Very good question. I too have questioned the same. When I had a truck mount system, it ran off a Kohler engine ( I love the name!) It run off of gas. Now that I have sold it, I too would like to know what to buy. I know it must have enough juice to run the buffer without straining the source. If so it will quickly ruin it or not run at all. Also keep in mind, many times you will need a heavy duty 50ft or 100ft extention cord to get everywhere you need to. The longer the cord the more juice you will need.

I have been cleaning a lot of mobile and manufactured homes for a company that refurbishes them for banks. At $45/room/area..not too bad. However, they are almost always without power.
Our system is mad for this type of home construction since they almost always have particleboard flooring or cheaper plywood. Getting this wet causes major problems like warping. Replacing the carpeting is $1600-$1700 and cleaning about $250 average and 11/2 hrs work…easy math!
I think that the 6250 surge watts and 5500 constant wattage is what I will have to shoot for. It works for the past 25-30 houses I have done for them.
I was only seeking actual experience with lower wattage…with all of the hits to this request, I guess there is none out there yet.

I’m not sure I can help you with the KW but I’ve owned many generators up north and presently have three here in Florida, 2 in my construction business and one 12 KW for my home. No matter what KW you decide on make sure it has a Honda engine, they have been number 1 on starting, running, noise, etc,etc. To bad you could not use a propane fired, that’s what I have at my home and it ran for over 3-weeks straight after hurricanes of “04” Lot more efficient and cleaner burning!!!! I think 6KW will more than do the job for you.
