Hello to all from the “newbie” in San Antonio! All of the recent threads about FAE have me pretty excited. I have yet to use it, but it sounds as if it would have helped in some previous jobs. My question to all of you who use this often is, based on a published mixed shelf life of between 10 and 30 minutes, how, when and where do you get the hot water to mix it? If you pre-mix in the AM, how does it last through the day? I hate to have to ask a client if I can use their water, so are you carrying hot water too? Help a novice out! Thanks.

In the summer (hot weather time here in Alabama), I sometimes fill mine with very hot water in the morning in case I need it. However, I don’t add the FAE powder. The water usually will stay warm enough. I’ll add the FAE powder and shake when I need it.
For most of the year though, I ask the customer if I can get some of their hot water. I simply explain that I want to mix up a “special” solution and that it is most effective when mixed immediately prior to use. All customers were happy to oblige and I don’t recall ever seeing any funny looks.
I try to use freshly mixed FAE, however, I have had some left from one job to the next and tried it perhaps 2 – 3 hours later. It seemed to work well enough.
I especially like FAE for those ground in/dark traffic lanes and those dark areas right in front of recliners and sofas.
Good luck with it.

I may be asking them about their children or grandchildren while I fill it at the kitchen sink and don’t think half of them even pay attention to what I’m doing. I like to make myself at home!

May 31, 2007 at 3:31 am #149569AnonymousInactiveI purchased an immersable heater that has saved me in situations where there is no hot water available. Works awesome, plug into the wall, drop it into a bucket of water, I usually do my vaccuming and edging and by the time im done my water is hot and ready to mix and spray the F.A.E.

June 5, 2007 at 1:10 am #149571AnonymousInactiveI actually think that when using FAE, if the water gets too hot, it “kills”(not really) it. As I recall, tepid water is the hot ticket.
June 13, 2007 at 1:02 am #149572HB2003ParticipantTepid… Good call!
June 14, 2007 at 12:01 am #149573pachecoParticipantI would never disagree with you Dennis, but I think many if not most enzymes are really activated by hot water…not tepid. But Cody is the expert on this and hopefully, he will enter and let us know the details…I use hot water from the tap as close to the time of the job as possible, but have, on occasion, used older…7-8 hours or so mixed FAE and it worked.
Cody…help… we are all using it, help us to use it right, please? Thanks, Dave

I will find out for sure and post the answer.June 14, 2007 at 11:47 pm #149575hbtest9MemberAll I can say is that I haven’t met any high traffic areas that stood a chance against the FAE! My only downfall is that I probably use too much. I wouldn’t feel confident in a job without it.
June 16, 2007 at 3:29 pm #149576AnonymousInactiveInformation straight from the top.
FAE ideal water temp is 80-100 F. Hotter than 110 will dramatically reduce effectiveness. Below 70, same thing. Dwell time is important.
June 16, 2007 at 7:20 pm #149577pachecoParticipantDennis, THANKS!
One more quickie…how long can we wait using mixed FAE before it’s effectiveness is kaput? I believe we are to wait about 10 minutes or so for it to become activated…then how long is it active for?
Thanks, Dave

So I cleaned the lunch room twice with 101 and citrus boost, nothing didn’t even budge the stains. Then I got smart they had a microwave so I took a bunch of cups heated up some water and applied the FAE 15 minuted later I cleaned it again and WHAMMO!!! 😯 The carpet looked brand new. All I can say is WOW! and I think thats what the customer will say when they see it Monday morning. GREAT product. 😀
