ParticipantHow do I elimiate the moldy, musty, stank smell coming from my UM? I tried sucking up some Orange D but it still smells… I’m pretty sure they went over this in training but I don’t recall the the remedy.
Thanks

ParticipantEmpty and clean every day. Orange deodorizer works well, but if it is bad fill with bleach and water and let it sit over night and then rinse out.

ParticipantI would unclamp the hose to the refuse tank also and soak it in some bleach and water then air dry along with soaking the tank overnight w/bleach and water. Make sure you rinse the bleach out well. We flush the small hose and all other hoses at least once a week and rinse the tank thoroughly each day and let it air dry. Nothing worse than firing up the uph mate and smelling up someones home. Hope this helps.

InactiveOne step further…fill a big bucket with water and bleach and suck it through the hose. Then let the tank sit over night.

InactiveI let mine soak with tide with bleach and this works extremely well.

ParticipantIn addition to keeping the hoses and recovery tank clean and dry, I also keep a spare red hose handy (just like the recovery hose but without the supply line running through it). When I’m in a customers house I run the extra line from the exhaust port on the UM (located near the wheel) out a window or door. This vents most of the exhaust (and odor) out of the home. Nothing worse than stinking up a customer’s house. I’ve tried orange deodorizer in a pinch however sometimes “orange stank” can be just as bad. 😆
You can also use the exhaust hose trick – assuming it’s not emitting foul odors – as a make-shift air mover to help dry the stuff you are cleaning.

InactiveGood idea Marc. The exhaust hose will also quiet the exhaust noise and can direct it to a different location. I’ve even covered the end with a couple of towels to muffle the noise evne more. Don’t want to restrict the flow however.
