For anyone that does internet or wants to do internet advertising I highly recommend a service called yodle. Their website is http://www.yodle.com They basically advertise you on the search engines like google, msn, yahoo, and superpages.com. But instead of buying clicks they generate phone calls and e-mails from actual customers ready to buy. They also track everything. When you get a call or e-mail you rate that customer. If its good you tell them and they will push that more whatever is generating that customer. If it is bad and you rate it at that they will do what ever they do so you don’t get any more customers like that. I been with them only 7 days and have already made my investment back. They will show you how their system works before you sign up as well so you know what you are getting.
Sorry for the long post but as you can probably tell i am exstatic about this place. The guy I deal with name is Brian Zang and his phone number is 917-210-6203 and his email is bzang@yodle.com When you call tell him Mike Cornell from HB in Allentown, PA sent you and give him code number 2249 and you will recieve a $50 credit on toward your account.
Hope this helps someone out there. Let me know and keep me posted.

JamieMay 29, 2008 at 11:00 pm #152103Linda OrrKeymasterI am looking in to yp.com. Has anyone heard of them or used them. The cost is about $2500 per year and the drive searches in you area to you from any search engine.
May 30, 2008 at 3:14 am #152104Larry youngParticipantI am looking into yodel talked to the gal tonight looks interesting as far as yp.com I haven’t been impressed
May 30, 2008 at 5:49 am #152105FL18ParticipantWe use yp.com or http://www.yellowpages.com
Go in to yp.com and type in carpet and rug cleaners under find. Then type in the zip code 78572 under location and you will see us. We are about 7 cleaners down. We are paying $79 a month. This was part of the deal with our 1/4 page yellow page ad. Total cost of around $370 a month. We got the semi good deal on the yp 1/4 page ad because at the top of our ad it says “serving the upper valley” , area specific, which is our area. We actually serve the entire Rio Grande Valley. Most of business currently is in the upper valley anyway. If we had put on the ad “Serving the Rio Grande Valley” then the 1/4 page ad with internet would have been around $800 a month. Hope this helps. $2500 is steep Don. The yp.com ad has paid for itself for the year though. It landed us IHOP. Overall it’s slow going on the yp.com ad but atleast we’re there getting exspoure. So far this year, the yp.com ad has gotten us 9 calls and 5 jobs booked since January 2008. The 1/4 page yp phone book ad has gotten us 11 jobs out of a possible 34. So, both are slow going. 34 calls is better than it has been in the past. We educate them one customer at a time. The yp ad in phone book came out in March. It is paying for itself and a little bit more. Summer is slow consistently for us though. June and July are ususally really slow. Picks back up in August. Anyway, hope this helps. We were doing a one liner the last 2 years with a crappy response, of course. In our 2nd year, we did a small box about 2 inches by 1 inch and at least paid of itself. God BlessMike Nowlin
June 1, 2008 at 2:00 am #152106AnonymousInactiveWe used yellowpages.com for a while. For us it was a waste. We got only 1 call of it in 4 months. We were the second cc that poped up. We canceled after our term was up.
June 1, 2008 at 5:22 am #152107Ca22ParticipantIn my experience the yp.coms do not work well. It seams like every book now has a on line version. It is a way to make up for all of there lost revenue. I agree that the books are becoming like the Old encyclopedia Britannica’s. Who wants to keep a volume of yp around when they can use the computer, or a blackberry to look it up. The problem that I see with all of the YP.coms is that they are trying to run their web like they do their books. I feel that going with a web page and having it pay per click or other optimising companies will get a bigger bang. I have noticed that the CA website is coming up a lot under searches. I have not started yet, but will be online very soon.

PatJune 9, 2008 at 7:36 pm #152110HBPuyallupParticipantWhat about google does anybody advertise on that. I have gotten a number companies that say they will get on the first page of google and I don’t pay until I am on there. It is $345 a month for my three cities. I don’t pay for clicks I just pay for a monthly fee I would neeed 3-4 jobs to pay for itself each month. Is there anyone else that uses google, msn, or yahoo and that likes the results? I believe more and more people are going to the internet. I would like to get on there but don’t know really what to do.
June 10, 2008 at 12:05 am #152111AnonymousInactiveif 25% of the job is labour and another 25% fixed costs and then another 10% for gas (UHG!!!) plus some more for taxes, then don’t you need to generate closer to $1500 of work just to pay for the ad costs?
June 18, 2008 at 5:23 am #152112tx45ParticipantI am doing 95% of my advertising online. I have been doing this for about a year now and am very pleased with the results.
First of all, Google adwords is an awesome tool in internet advetising. I would encourage everyone to go out and buy “adwords for dummies”. I guarantee it will bring you business for very little cost.
Second, do some homework on the “secondary” online companies like yellowpages.com, yellowbook.com, Dexknows, etc. They can be very beneficial as well. The key to these types of internet companies is to look and see if they are advertising in your area themselves to bring in more local users. In my area yp.com is not very well known so they are not a good source of advertsing, however, yellowbook.com and Dexknows advertise heavily on TV, billboards, magazines, etc. so they are widley used and bring me a lot of business. In some areas there are also companies like citysearch.com or servicemagic. These companies can be very profitable as well as long as you do your homework.
Some benefits I have noticed in internet advertising are it has eliminated a lot of the tire kickers. No more wasted time on the phone with people who just want the cheapest job possible. Internet consumers, from my experiences so far, tend to be a better caliber of customer. Most of them are looking for quality at a fair price and not the cheapest they can get something cleaned for.
No matter how you decide to advertise, always remember to stay proactive in your marketing and not sit idle waiting for the phone to ring.July 29, 2008 at 4:28 pm #152113tn16ParticipantFirst I just wanted to comment on the companies that say they will get you on the first page. Unless they are offering to do this for the “Organic result set” this is a *scam alert*! You can get on the first page easy enough be submitting yourself to google and yahoo local search, the same goes for msn. Don’t be fooled by these people. Local search and google ads don’t really count in my book. These kinds of services only have real value if:
a. Local search is very competitive in your area and you’re having a hard time getting on top.
b. You don’t want to manage your own pay-per-click accounts
c. They offer some kind of useful tool that makes the job easier and more profitable to you.
d. They don’t want to charge insane amounts of money. In most cases, local search will show the top 10 cleaners your area when you type something like “carpet cleaning YOU AREA NAME HERE”. If you have a website and a few reviews on the board, you will get on that first page no problem.
For more information on signing up for these kind of services as well as some mentioned by Ammon, see my post here:

I was able to demo with yodle a few weeks back and I feel like they had some relatively useful tools. Can anyone comment on there experience with yodle thus far now that you have been using them for some time?
July 31, 2008 at 1:24 am #152114AnonymousInactivemy first 2 months it paid for it self in 1 week. was in profit the rest of the month. i just raised my budget this week. i am confident it will produce more business. If it still generates the same i will lower my budget to the original amount and still make profit.
July 31, 2008 at 11:33 pm #152115AnonymousGuestI placed an ad with yellowbook.com and it has paid for about half the year in 1 month. It costs me $105 per month for a top placement.
I just placed an ad with yellowpages.com which costs me $293 for a similar top placement ad.
I’m a new franchisee and have been turned off to the printed versions of these books by feedback from you guys out there.
Now, when I told the yellowpage.com people that they are almost 3X the price of yellowbook.com they pointed out something very interesting.
MARKETSHARE IS KING….They dominate here in North Jersey.
To find out who has how much marketshare in your area, type the word “TRENDS” into the google search box.
Click on the very first item that comes up.
In that website type in all of the phone book or Dot.com versions into the search box with commas between each one.
It will show you by geographic area who has who much market share.
Best of Luck. -
