ParticipantI did a cleaning bid & the customer has crunchy carpet from her attempt to clean with a rented machine from the grocery store. I booked the job when I will be away. My employees will cleaning. Will our process take care of this? Is there a special treatment that will fix this problem? Thank you.

InactiveMark,
Crunchy carpet is usually a result of a lot of residue left in the carpet (either soap or high ph cleaning product), which is not uncommon with customer’s using store machines (i.e. rug doctor). If my carpet is dirty and the bottle of rug doctor cleaner says to use 3oz, I should use 5 oz for my carpet right? (standard human thinking of more is better, which is not always right and we professionals can also fall prey to this with our products as well) In my experience, I would say go light on the 101 in your sprayer and maybe consider adding some Orange deodorizer (either to your solution, or better yet do a separate final pass with water with some Orange Deodorizer to act as an “acid rinse”). If it was really bad, I would say you may want to extract some of the worst areas with just water to help remove residue before you start our usual process.

ParticipantThe hot water extract method will leave a carpet stiff and crunchy. They are notorious for saying “Just vacuum when dry.” Detergent residue or soil residues combined with longer dry times are the leading causes. Answer #1! Use low moisture cleaning process! Answer #2! Add Orange Deodorant to cleaning solution! (One oz (OD) to a gallon (cleaner) at most and do not put through your power sprayer. Use an extra pad to absorb additional moisture before grooming carpet. Let us know how it goes!

ParticipantHey guys. Thanks for your help. We did a normal clean with a watered down solution. Then we applied an acid rinse & buffed once more. Carpet turned out great! She was Thrilled.
Thanks again! -
