We will all be uniform after the changes are complete. The bottom line is we own our franchises and we are all able to make our own decisions on what we will and wont offer. I do think that if you don’t offer a service you should know some one who does, that way you can fully serve your customers. Service is key!

Even at Subway we were allowed up to three ‘local’ subs – but the choices were from an approved list, and all products were from our approved vendor – only. No matter what services we offer, I believe they too must be from an approved list provided by our franchisor – as well as the supplies, equip, and training! Individual operators should not just be allowed to create their own list of services without an approval process!

“Independantly Owned and Operated”

I don’t think that added service such as carpet stretching / dying is going to have an affect on other franchisees. If you don’t offer other services, you don’t, plain and simple. A poor stretch job by someone in CA doesn’t effect someone in NY, it only reflects that operators quality of work and knowledge of the service. I wouldn’t stretch carpet in my areas just because the carpet installers give me several references, I wouldn’t want them cleaning carpet on the side. On the other hand I also have an additional business that I do part time touching up furniture in hotels, and offer this service right along with my carpet and upholstery biz for my residential customers. This has come in handy on more than one occasion, I bumped into a ladies antique sewing machine with my buffer one time and scratched it, she was pissed! I explained to her it was not a problem and that I could fix the scratch without her ever knowing it was there. Did so and in return she hired me to touch up the baseboards in her main living areas, stuck an extra 150.00 in my pocket on top of the carpet cleaning. Needless to say she was happy all the way around and have continued to clean on a regular basis for her. It alls boils down to puttin green backs in your pocket and you may have to twist things once in awhile to do it. I think many of us are jacks of all trades from the sound of it, so what if someone can make extra money stretching or dying, more power to ya.

June 17, 2006 at 2:45 pm #146717Ca22ParticipantI could not agree more. I take a lot of pride in being able to offer great service. With that I have a long list of services to offer. This is what makes our franchise stand out in our area. We are in a large area with over a hundred large C.C. and mom and pop companies around. Every little edge in the market helps. We also make a lot of money doing repairs, streching, ozone, therm fog, j-bars,wax, spot dye,and water damage. I am certified and highly recomend anyone who does offer extended services get trained and certified (IICRC). I do not feel that me offering this to my customers is hurting any other franchise. The very very small amount of people that move to another teritory is a fraction of a percent of overall customers. Their bigger worry would mostly be price differences between franchises.
As far as subways go I think they are great. Just yesterday I had a Subway new baked meatball sandwich, filled my gas in my van, picked up some bottle water and gum for the road. It was a one stop shop and the owner sould be very happy if he only knew I was only stopping for something to drink. By the time I paid the bill I was just shy of breaking a hundred dollars.
True story not every subway is the same everywhere. This one happened to be part of a gas station.
