Matt,
Just wondering on the clean off,,What did they have you do?? Was it an area of carpet or a piece of carpet? And how soiled was it to begin with? I have some hotels that I explained our “processes” to… Telling them that we do extraction when needed and LM when it is’nt needed..I have done very little extraction. The point being that we have to cover all bases or we get thrown out at the plate. One other thing I have learned is that you can not convince some people no matter how hard you try..

As for steam cleaners not using any steam, I saw a steam cleaner the other day in action……sure did look like steam coming out of his wand to me.
Was it steam coming out of the wand or steam coming off the hot water? when I take a shower it steams but I’m not being steamed.

It wasn’t anything that I had cleaned before. The company that I believe they choose cleaned a different piece of carpet the total sq ft was probably about 400. I spent at least an hour on it.
The other have of the room the 3rd carpet cleaning company had already cleaned it. I had to smile when I walk in there because there was streaks. She thought about giving me a different piece of carpet after the fact. I think she wanted to do this to be fair. She is a really fair person and wanted to give everyone the same opportunity. I didn’t want to clean 13 buildings with steam. That is a good idea so say that you will extract when necessary because we do all the time on pet spots. A lot was learned and hopefully this post helps other operators not to make the same mistakes I did. I am to know that that I got 2nd and not 3rd which the 3rd was a steamer.November 14, 2008 at 10:04 pm #152738breelandParticipantwater vapor not steam.
November 15, 2008 at 5:38 am #152739KY13ParticipantDirt bag- It was definitly coming out of the wand and it appeared to be steam. But then again it was like 3 oclock in the morning and I was kinda drunk………..But i’m almost positive.
November 15, 2008 at 11:37 am #152740breelandParticipantWhat you were seeing was water vapor, not steam.
November 15, 2008 at 7:23 pm #152741KY13ParticipantTechnicalities technicalities. To the layman it appears to be steam
November 15, 2008 at 8:36 pm #152742pachecoParticipantA bit of trivia…steam is invisible….
November 16, 2008 at 2:18 pm #152743AnonymousInactiveDepends on air temp Dave.
November 16, 2008 at 5:32 pm #152744pachecoParticipantNot really…
But youy are right, in a way.
steam is actually invisible, and the cloudy stuff that you see after it cools a tad is water vapor. When a tea kettle is boiling and whistling, the water coming directly out of the kettle is steam (something invisible) and the stuff you see some mm later is water vapor.
You are right to a degree, it is temperature dependent, upon the boiling point of water and the pressures involved. In any event though the vapor you can see is water vapor and steam is not visible as in the description above.
November 17, 2008 at 5:41 am #152745NJ05ParticipantUnless it is saturated steam…
November 17, 2008 at 12:01 pm #152746pachecoParticipantOr wet steam … but steam is invisible…different natures to it for sure.
