    Gary,
I didn’t mean that a dual process is not effective. It takes a long time for not much better of a result in my opinion. Time is money. If you use it and it’s working for you than keep it up.

If I had a terrible traffic issue, I would heat the solution and pre-spray/pre-spot then allow to sit and then clean as usual. One gets terrific results and still maintains the integrity of the system….cold work, hot works better.

    Just my 2 cents..

The reason that I haven’t replied is because they haven’t look at it yet. I maybe subconsioulsy left my jacket there. I went to go and pick it up later and brought my 3 year old daughter. The lady Heather got a big smile on her face and started to ask her the usual questions “What’s your name? How old are you?” Those questions. She may of cinched the deal for me. If she did I will have to buy her a car when she’s 16.

I will post something when I find out whether I get it or not. But I am going to get it.

Never, ever buy your kid a car at any age…let them buy with their money… You have better odds at them not wrecking yours. And if you let them drive yours, you had better have a back up. Not my idea, but the insurance company knows the numbers and I concur from personal, parental knowledge.

Wish you the best with the job….

children will also learn early to take of what they have so there will be money for new stuff 🙂 I suggest every time a child earns money start having them putting there money where it needs to go

    my kids
10% tythes or a charity (can be direct if they no some one who can use help
    10% retirment
10% invest (dad and mom not going to let them use there tools forever)
    Pay all bills
go play spend the rest or save for bigger ticket items
I also set each one up with there own quicken accounts

hopefully buy the time they fly away they will be have good financial disaplin sorry I cant spell 🙂

Good advice. I got my kids IRAs the instant they got paychecks from an employer. They worked for a landscaper one summer in early teens, I put money from my pocket into their accounts…in their 20s now, they all have IRAs, though lower in value now, they have shares.

Never bought them a car though….#2 borrows mine and I will sell to her next year.

After 3 months of trying to get this account and the whole clean off. I called them today and they said they were going to go with someone else. She told me why and I wanted to ask. She went on to say that some of the other people in the company were concern about not us using steam. The question is this would I have gotten it if I was a steam cleaner. In the 3 months I learned a lot. One should of skipped right over the person that I was dealing with. I thought that I was dealing with the decision maker. She only handles the stuff under 10K. Next time I will talk to the person decision maker. That way I can resolve all concerns about our process and tell them the benefits. That way they are being educated by the real source and not through the grape vine. I am not blaming the loss of this contract on that we don’t do HWE. Our process works there is not doubt. I blame myself for not being educated enough to make the sale or be a better salesperson and get the right person. I am their #2 and will be here and then I will wait patiently to be their #1.

    You know Matt…

Every cloud has a silver lining…

I just got to thinking. No steam cleaner uses steam at all….however, if we pre-treated with steam from a shark or whatever steam cleaning unit, lightly used it on the carpeting, leaving very little moisture in the carpet, then spray with the 101 as normal….we just might help loosen soil, goop and gap and and also sanitizing by using steam and then clean with our regular process. VOILA!!!! We would then be steam, low moisture carpet cleaners with a twist or two.

A little more time involved, but might be very effective. Worht an experiment or two perhaps.

    Very interesting possibility….ok, maybe a dumb idea…

    Just my 2 cents…

Sorry to hear about that Matt. Been there learned that too.
my 2c is to stick with it. Stop in and see them as often as you can, once or twice a month even just to say “hi” When they eventually are tired of wet carpets you will be their guy. If it were me, I’d write them a letter thanking them for the opportunity and explaining in black and white why you are better. And Dave makes a good point, there is NO such thing as a steam cleaner. They probably need to know that. I hate loosing

I feel your pain. I lost two jobs today because I wasn’t a “steam cleaner”.
As for steam cleaners not using any steam, I saw a steam cleaner the other day in action……sure did look like steam coming out of his wand to me.

Thanks to all for the support. I was down for a little while but now I feel great and have more of a determination that before to get out there and clean. I do plan on writing that letter and stopping in every once and a while. I will get it eventually.

Just a reminder that we all can do “steam cleaning”. If you have something that applies a cleaner to carpet and sucks it out, that is pretty much “steam cleaning”. The U-mate and ninja both perform this action. Competition doesn’t do “steam cleaning”, they do hot water extraction. If it was actually steam, the carpet wouldn’t be wet for 6-12 hours because steam doesn’t have the moisture content to leave it wet that long if it is being sucked out at virtually the same time. I believe they may have some systems out there now that do use more of a true steam, but most companies don’t have them (haven’t fully researched these yet).

That said, some (uneducated/stubborn) people will always want “steam cleaning” no matter what you tell them. We’ve all lost jobs due to this and we all will in the future. Remember our job is not only cleaning carpet, but also to be a sales person, sometimes first and foremost. Every salesperson in every industry has obstacles to overcome. Conquer those obstacles! Matt has the right idea. Don’t dwell on loses, learn from them and move on.

The saying goes, if you continue with the same actions, you will continue to get the same results. (or something like that…does someone have that as their signature on here?)

    Matt,

Just wondering on the clean off,,What did they have you do?? Was it an area of carpet or a piece of carpet? And how soiled was it to begin with? I have some hotels that I explained our “processes” to… Telling them that we do extraction when needed and LM when it is’nt needed..I have done very little extraction. The point being that we have to cover all bases or we get thrown out at the plate. One other thing I have learned is that you can not convince some people no matter how hard you try..
