Dumb question, what do you all do when you receive a call for an appointment while driving? It’s obviously hard to do and still drive safely. I was thinking about getting a smartphone that allows you to record conversations so that I could write down the details when I got to a stop… any other ideas?
I like to be upfront and honest with the customer. I let them know right away that i’m behind the wheel. Ask them if they mind waiting a minute or two while you find a place to pull off the road, meanwhile, ask them how they heard of you, ask them which city they live in, or whatever – just small talk to give them a sense of comfort with you. Personality sells!
If I’m alone I will do what Sutton said and make small talk untill I can find a place to pull over. Usually my wife is with me taking the calls so I am fortunate in that instance.
I have the Jabra bluetooth. Excellent product as it stays exactly where you want it; on your damn ear. I have a storage bin between the two seats that is perfect height for me to write down contact information. I’ve gotten really good at writing and doing it safely while driving.
In most cases, if I am not in position to write or pass info on to my co-pilot, I let them know that I am driving and ask if they don’t mind to wait a few seconds until I can pull-over. Maybe even ask if I can call them right back because I am driving. Everyone has been very understanding and has no issue with that…
