I was cleaning for an older couple this morning. As usual, we exchanged congenialities and small talk before I got started. Early on in this 2 plus hour job ‘Mr. Smith’ stated that the wallet that he had on the nightstand was missing. I, of course had already done the prep work in that room. So, for the better part of 2 hours, the wallet was missing and I’m the only stranger to enter the house. As I was nearing the end of my job, I could feel the stress building as if I had something to do with this. At that point, I explained to the people how uncomfortable I was with this whole scenario and suggested we call the police to set their minds at ease in regards to me. They chose not to do that, and about 5 minutes before I left the wallet showed up! It seems that the old guy went to the basement earlier to use the restroom and it fell out of his pocket. I can’t remember when I have been so relieved! We parted on good terms and everyone was happy.

I find if I’m stealing something from old people, its better to take things they won’t notice. Perhaps a nip or two from the liquor cabinet, some gas from their car or food from the freezer. Leave the wallets, lamps, tvs and jewlery alone. Just a little freindly advice from……………….The Dirt Bag

    To whom it may comcern…
An operator in Iowa (other than Bryan) was accused of taking $20 from a night stand. It was brought up as they were loading up. The HB owner turned to the helper of 2 months and ask him if he had taken it. “I need to know now because I’m calling the police. HB owner called the police they emptied there pockets to the police officer and said “we are not guilty. but we want you write this up, and I hope this check clears.” After about two weeks later the HB owner received a call to say there was nothing to report, but it was good that he (HB) called instead of the customer. The police also recommended that he not serve that customer again. These two times are the only times I’ve heard of.
