Anyone experience burn out. I am having a bad bout with it. Just not looking forward to each day. I am going to the seminar in hopes of getting remotivated. Anyone have any suggestions until then?

Then try to think about what you like about the business: the answers to all of the above, meeting so many nice people, seeing our great results, dealing with great people in the company and home office, setting goals and developing plans to meet them, reaching those goals and setting new ones.
Our work is hard and mundane at times. Our bodies often hurt from the physical nature of the work. But the advantages of this business far outweigh the negatives in my opinion. Finding a good employee has many advantages. Maybe you could find someone who can lighten you load, help you build some business, cover for you when you may not be able to work or want to go on vacation . . . Think about it. Hope you find ways to make your business feel good again.

There are days that I would rather not go out and clean but like all jobs and professions, there are those days and those customers that drag us down. I find that having a positive mental attitude every day and being happy and look forward to each new day helps not only me but my customers and everyone I come in contact with. Booking those extra large sales volume months might look good and pay well but can take a mental toll on a person.
September 27, 2011 at 4:41 am #155302AnonymousGuestBurn out, if allowed to fester, will devour all of your success. I totally agree, a positive mental attitude is everything in this and every business. Try and analyze the root cause of your burn out. Be honest with yourself. Perhaps even take it a step further and analyze yourself and determine what makes you tick. What gets you motivated, and excited? Every one, every business, every team will experience slumps along the journey. We all do. Sometimes all that is needed is some tweeking and retooling of your game plan to get back to your winning ways. I am a self motivator and I enjoy challenges, however, on November 1st I am attending a seminar called “Get Motivated”. This is an all day seminar where Colin Powell, Lou Holtz, Rudy Giuliani, Bill Cosby, Joe Montana, General McChrystal and others will be speaking. The cost for the entire seminar is, get this, ONLY $1.95 per person. This seminar travles nationally with many of the same speakers. You may want to go on line and see if there is an upcoming seminar in your area. http://www.getmotivated.com. Something like this could help you as well.
September 27, 2011 at 5:01 am #155303AnonymousGuestI failed to mention a suggestion that most assuredly will help you with burn out… Take the time to reflect on your many blessings in life!

Because most of my co-workers hated being there!! I was refreshed a few days ago when my previous employer called for a cleaning quote. Walking through that facility reminded me of my great decision. By the way, I quoted 10750 sqft of carpet at .30 and 1200 sqft of tile at .75 and they didn’t bat an eye. “When can you do it” they asked! 😛

October 28, 2011 at 2:33 pm #155306Linda OrrKeymasterThanks for all your help and suggestions. Some I have tried and they do work to an extent. My biggest problem is that I loved my job before this one. It was what I always dreamed of doing, so that suggestions dosen’t fly too much with me. Also, without getting into much detail and personal info, I tick a bit different than others, (I think John and Cody could probably attest to this). Many things that work for most people don’t do a thing for me. Motivational speakers (exept one, that I heard) usually drive me nuts. I don’t mean to be a downer and I will try again with your suggestions. Just hearing them from others in the business is helpful. I do like being around positive people even though I am mostly a idealist/ realist (actually diagnosed as an introverted extrovert if you can believe that).
October 28, 2011 at 2:41 pm #155307Linda OrrKeymasterI guess the other thing I would say is that money has been very tight lately and so when I do try to make the balance and have time for myself, I feel anxiety because I should be working. When I first started I had a great balance between work and personal time and loved the freedom running my own business offered. But with the anxiety of bringing in the needed cash flow, I have lost that. With that said, I do appreciate every time I am able to go do something for my family or friends when they need me. I think the most important thing is to bring my life back into balance. So, that is why I am headed to Las Vegas, NV this weekend. It isn’t just a pleasure trip, it is to visit my son who lives there who is having some troubles. My job is allowing me to do this. I am going to try and relax as much as possible. Though last time I got stuck in the airport for 14 hours and ended up renting a car at 8:00 pm and driving all night in order to make it back for a very important job.
Thanks for letting me vent. I look forward to Orlando to be around you. I am all alone here in New Mexico and need some time with my fellow Heaven’s Best people. In the past that has always been a cure.October 30, 2011 at 1:27 pm #155308AnonymousInactiveDon, You are not alone, we are all only a phone call away. We all have “down” times to some extent. If you are working too many hours to make the money you need, we may want to discuss your pricing structure. You stated that you did have a good balance before but now you don’t. What was the change? Are you refering to the balance before HB or earlier years of HB? I don’t want to pry, just want to help. You seem to be too good of a guy to be in the dumps!!!!!!
November 29, 2011 at 1:53 am #155309Linda OrrKeymasterThanks for your support. It helps to think of the things that owning my own business allows me to do. As of today, I am feeling much better. Took a trip to see my son and was able to relax.
November 29, 2011 at 2:02 am #155310Linda OrrKeymasterTo address your other questions about balance, I had set myself a salary that was just about right but when things slowed down with the economy my wife had already put it into our budget and couldn’t do with less. This put me in a situation that I never had to deal with before. I have always kept myself in a position where I didn’t have to worry about keeping a job I didn’t like or have to do something I didn’t want to do. This was always my piece of mind and though I always worked I never felt trapped. I always lived wellbelow my means. Now I have much more posessions and such but hate the feeling of worrying about makeing the amount of money needed to keep up.
On the other hand, the wife is happy and that is the most important thing anyway.
Again, thanks for the support!

I actually had an ad for this cut out sitting on my desk but by the time I looked into it I already had some jobs scheduled so I did not attend, how was it and would you recommend going next year?.
January 29, 2012 at 4:52 pm #155312Linda OrrKeymasterI am hoping our H.B. seminar will help. Actually I am banking on it. Cody and John have made it sound like it is going to make me into a lean mean carpet cleaning machine. My expectations are very very high. I hope they deliver because honestly I didn’t really want to attend. Money and time are a big issue coming out of the Jan Feb slow down.
January 29, 2012 at 11:25 pm #155313AnonymousInactiveWe are all hoping to have a great experience in Florida. Ultimately, as in most things, it will be what each of us make of it. I look at these in the respect that if I can take one good tip away, it will pay for the effort and money to get there. I’m looking forward to being around a lot of positive HB operators.
