I had a power failure several days ago with the HB program running and everything went dead. Turns out my battery backup power supply has lost the ability to retain enough power to keep the computer running long enough for me to shut it down. Thus I need a new battery system. However, the power failure also caused my data file to become corrupt. No Problemo. I have a recent backup disk I created and will restore that and fill in the information since them. Whoops!!! Seems the backup disk is also corrupt. Dang nab it. Guess what kids, I get to reload a bunch of info from a backup 4 months old.

    Lessons to remember

1 Back up your data regularly!
2 Back up to the hard drive and a CD.
3 If you have a battery backup power system make sure it works.

You too can be in my situation, or worse if you do not have a backup.

Loren, those are some excellent pieces of advice. I wouldn’t recommend backing up to your original hard drive though, b/c if that goes down, your backup goes down as well! 😯

Here’s what I do. I have yet to be able to afford a battery backup, so I just back all my files up on to my back up drive, which is a seperate hard drive. 🙂

I have an external hard drive that I back up on which is separate from the C drive. As for a power backup, I bought a new one fronm the local
Radio Shack for $59. It will give enough power for me to shut things down should I encounter another power failure or an errant foot that hits the wall plug. It has the capability of auto shutdown if I want to download the software. Surge protection for power, telephone or internet is included.
