(Reposted at Ammon’s Suggestion/Request)
Last evening I did an mt house and they had a kitchen/dining room combo and had used an area rug in the dining area. the grout lines in the kitchen were black and dining area white since they had been covered.
I had made some fresh FAE before coming to the job, and as an afterthought, sprayed all of the kitchen area with FAE. It breaks up goop and gap in carpet, why not tile & grout? White tile and grout of course.
After cleaning the 4 br and hall and lr, the FAE had mostly dried except in the grout lines..but they looked much lighter. I sprayed the HS cleaner as normal and then ran the buffer with the brush and then extracted with the squeegee wand and Ninja and I almost fell over…the lines were not lighter…MUCH lighter.
As I post cleaned and vacuumed and put stuff away, the floor dried and as I was leaving was totally stunned. Looking at the kit and dr…both areas at the same time, it was almost impossible to tell the difference.
This may just be an accident with the planets aligned right…but it might be worth some experimentation. I would encourage the use of fresh FAE, NOT old (over 1 hour)…effectiveness will drop off.
Hopes this helps someone.

July 4, 2007 at 4:20 am #150149hbtest9MemberI have one this Thursday. Hey, Dave what technique have you used to clean the tiling on the walls of the shower? We all know the buffer is out of the question. Thanks.
July 4, 2007 at 12:19 pm #150150pachecoParticipantI have not done baths other than the flooring…but if I chose to, I would use the brush attachment to the Oreck and have at it. I use it in tight places on the floor.
Hope this helps…

July 10, 2007 at 6:49 pm #150151Tn02ParticipantI used FAE on a T&G job today and I found it to not work at well as the hard surface cleaner. It could be just me though. Despite all the high marks FAE gets around here, I have never had any additional success with it on anything.
July 10, 2007 at 7:32 pm #150152CJonesParticipantNever used on T&G, but I am using it a lot more on carpet these days!! Just used it this morning on some very dark brown/black traffic areas – the worst coming out of a kitchen. Sprayed down the areas first then began buffing in the back of the house. By the time I got out to where I used the FAE it had dwelled at least 20-30 minutes. Man, it cleaned up like brand new with dirt napper!! Don’t give up on this stuff – it works!!
July 10, 2007 at 10:28 pm #150153Tn02ParticipantWell I gave it another shot. After I posted about the T&G FAE experience I headed out to a frieze job. Of all the carpet types, frieze is the one I have the hardest time with. I used the FAE I had left from my T&G job this morning, it was still warm but it had sat for about 3 hours. I used it on the traffic lanes with the dirt napper and I was pleasantly surprised. Another pass with a finishing towel and it came out looking great. The funny thing is since I am so bad at cleaning frieze I really lowered the customers expectations, so everyone was really happy.
July 11, 2007 at 2:17 am #150154hbtest9MemberHey Neil. What is frieze? Thanks.
July 11, 2007 at 2:10 pm #150155Tn02ParticipantHere’s a good description, Dan.
July 11, 2007 at 9:45 pm #150156Larry youngParticipantThats funny, that is one of my favorite carpets to clean, are you using the bbc’s on it?
July 11, 2007 at 11:44 pm #150157pachecoParticipantMine as well….
Brings up an interesting point…is dirt the same in WA or FL or PA or AZ or anywhere??? For that matter is the dirt encountered in eastern Lancaster County the same as that in other parts of the County??? The answer is not hardly.
Something to think about. We are so fortunate to have a large number of arrows in our quiver to use against whatever soil type/carpet type we may encounter.
Thanks Cody!

July 13, 2007 at 4:35 pm #150159CJonesParticipantSame here – we’re seeing a lot of this type of carpet in the newer homes. Kind of a new style of the old “shag” carpet. Cleans up well though with the ‘ol dirt napper!
August 10, 2007 at 9:48 pm #150160GA18ParticipantDave, cudos and thanks for the tip. After reading this thread, I have twice used FAE on grout lines where the grout had been seriously discolored and both times the FAE did the trick. A most useful suggestion.
