I was using an old bicycle pump to pressurize the canister, but it broke. I checked out a few new pumps, but the valves do not work properly with the valve on the canister (they keep slipping off).

Can some of you please share what type of pump/compressor you are using and where you got it from. The new bicycle pumps aren’t very good for this.

    Thanks

    Dan,
I bought an air tank from WalMart early on. I believe it is a two gallon tank that can be pressurized to 125 psi. It has a normal attachment that will allow you to fill the protector canister. I think I paid $11.00 on sale for the tank. I think they usually run closer to $20.

I also bought a small compressor from WalMart that I use to fill my air tank. The compressors are considerably more expensive. I forget exactly what I paid (I think around $60), but I can tell you that you don’t want one of those small cheapies that you can supposedly fill a tire with in a pinch. They work extremely slowly. My compressor has a one gallon tank and can handle up to 100 psi and it still seems slow when I’m in a hurry, however it is adequate.

If you get the air tank pressurized to well over 80 psi, it will last several days depending on how busy you are. If you fill the protector canister nearly full (I believe we were taught to put 32 ounces or less for one filling), it doesn’t actually need much air from the tank to pressurize it. And of course we were taught that you need at least 80 psi if you do put in 32 ounces. So I try to get my air tank filled close to 90 psi or more whenever possible.

Also, I frequently pass by two different gas stations that still have free air with a serious compressor. I stop at them whenever I get a chance and can fill my air tank in about 10 – 20 seconds.

Overall, my “system” is relatively inexpensive. However, it is simple and works well.

    Hope this helps you.

The sprayer you pressurise is not the best one out there, you need one that looks and works more professional. They have protector sprayers that are made just for protector…. the hand pump one HB has now is much better, holds more and you don’t have to haul around a pump or compressor or air tank….the fan spray pattern is the way to go…
