I have a new area, Estes Park, CO it is a tourist area in the spring summer. Located by Rocky Mountain National Park. No a lot of pop., but big homes and apartments buildings and business. A lot of high end homes. There is only 4 carpet cleaners in the phone book. I have call all four twice and got a hold of one the second time. They charge $.40 per sq. ft. and $.15 for protector. It might sound like I just have to answer my phone. The new phone book doesn’t come out until june 08. There are a couple set backs or things that I haven’t really dealt with. One is an 1 hour drive to get the the area. You don’t get cell phone service through the canyon. I would like to have one employee go up there alone to do the work. I don’t want to drive a hour to do a redo either. I am also a little concern about the roads is the winter with a rear wheel drive vehicle I have chains, but!!!! Anything would be greatly helpful. Thanks

    Matt,
    Two options,
    1. Hire a local person in your area, have them go full time in your area and send him to the new area to do the jobs there, until you have it built up to sustain a person full time.

    -Or-

    2. Hire a person from the second area, when there is little to not much going on in the second area, spread out his time building the area and working one or two days a week in your area so this person makes enough to pay the bills.

    Re-evaluate regularly.

    hey matt
I own a Large county covering 4518 sq miles, when I want to move into a area (by choice or when a customer calls) I ask them to let there friends and niebors know I will be in there area on the date seleceted usualy 2 weeks out so I may fill the day there. I usualy end up a full day, then the referals start comming in and I keep doing that same prosess untill I can fill a day once a week. the only down side right now is there is not enough days in the week, so in the spring I will be looking for a full timer to come on board 🙄

    Pat,
I do this with “snow birds” or “winter texans” as we call them here in Texas. One calls and wants some sort of discount, as usual, and I tell them to get 3 or more to clean and I will do their trailer/motor home for next to nothing. I have been focusing my attention on these trailer parks more than ever because it could be great income for my biz. Some of these parks/resorts have 400 to 500 trailers/motor homes and they have a bulletin board with biz cards on them. Some of them use notebooks with comment sections. A park I have done recently went from one job to 6 within the last week or so. These winter texans come from all of your territories for 4-6 months from November to March,April, May and I get calls from some of them who have used you guys in other cities/states. A lot of them end up in Florida as well. One call I got last year was from one of Brian Sutton’s clients. She said Brian was slacking 😆
Just kidding Brian. She said he does a great job and was excited to know Heaven’s Best is here in South Texas. Perfect example of how one owner/operator can affect another. Hope all is well. Happy cleaning.

Thanks for all the info. I do only want one person to go the area and do the work. I’ve also thought about joining the chamber of commerce. I’ve never been a member of one though. I’ve heard good and bad things about it. I’m hoping, that being a smaller community, that everybody sticks together. I will tell you all how the chamber of commerce goes. I
