What does everyone do when asked about our cleaning and how it fits with their carpet warranty? I had a lady call me today and asked if I did hot water extraction because that is what her carpet manufacturers warranty required. Once I said that is not the method I use she pretty much ended the conversation.

I tell people to read through their whole warranty if that is a concern. Most warranties require professional cleaning every 12-18 months (with a reapplication of protectant each cleaning). If they haven’t been following this, their warranty is already voided so it doesn’t matter how their carpet is cleaned. That said, we can perform steam cleaning (via portable) if that is what is required, but it is not our preferred method. I further explain that most carpet warranties are a joke and many of the commercials show spills happening that actually would void the warranty in some cases. Give them all the facts, and then let them decide who to use and what method, but make sure it is an educated decision on their part.

I’ve found most carpet warranties are left up to the local retailer. If your a good customer, community leader, prestigious etc, they will do more for you. If not they just say “Sorry” and at best discount you a new carpet (Above their cost no dought). Most carpet “warranties are not worth the paper it is written on”. The fine print states the exclusions… not covered in used areas, spill areas etc. Basically under the couch if there hasn’t been a spill. Unless of course it’s an unlimited warranty like Tandus carpets. (25-30 years) rare. Educating the customer is the key.
