Every month I attend a round robin marketing group where I talk about SEO and this months meeting happened to land on election night so most of the conversation revolved around the election and how it will affect small business. At the end of the seminar we have dinner and get split into groups of 12 to 15 for each table. Each member represents a different type of business so we have a pretty good mix of small businesses. My table had a total of 14 people and I asked for a show of hands who felt their business would improve with Obama being re-elected and only 1 person said yes. He was an attorney that specializes in handling divorce cases and explained that a good percentage of his clients come to him because financial issues drove the couple apart. I don’t want to start a debate here about the pro’s and con’s of the parties and who you voted for but I am curious as to how many of you feel that Obama being re-elected is going to be good for business? and most importantly WHY?. The group last night was pretty depressing and I cannot come up with any reason myself to think that the re-election will help improve the economy for small businesses.

I guess you could spin it and say that broke people in a broke economy will clean their carpets instead of replacing them. The other upside is if we go out of business we will get free healthcare and benefits. Lol

Thanks for the laugh…
November 9, 2012 at 6:01 pm #155706AnonymousGuestIf you come from a limited government self reliance mindset there is absolutely NOTHING positive about Obama’s re-election. He is committed to his ideology and views his re-election as an opportunity to forge ahead with his societal, economic, and defense devastating policies. I cannot wrap my mind around the thought that any small business would believe his re-election is good for business and/or supports his economic policies. It’s like saying you are a Christian yet identifying with and supportive of the cultural and societal change of progressives. It makes absolutely zero sense.
In light of his re-election and knowing he will not move to the center nor take a leadership role with Congress relative to, but not limited to, the “fiscal cliff”, as business owners, we all need to review our businesses and have a vision for the future. By that I mean we need to look at EVERYTHING and anticipate change not just what it is in front of us today but I am talking down the road, long term. There is so much too look at such as the customers cleaning frequency, tax implications, employees, increase in COS, every single expense, etc etc. Our economy is going to change and we all need to find our own ways to get out in front of it. That, in my opinion, is the only way we will survive.

In my area, the residential cleaning has dropped during non-busy residential time and just as busy during the busiest time. (Spring and Fall) About the same or a bit lower in the summer.
Property Management has stayed the same.
Business has increased dramatically about 3 times the amount of commercial work we were doing.
Over all about a 10-15% increase. What have I done to improve my business: focus on the commercial contracts, maintaining quality, using our “Heaven’s Best Quality Control Division” and doing a $99 residential special.
What’s the observation of your area?

The economy formed a vacuum long before he took office, and with all the head butting i don’t know how anything can get done in Washington. I read a sticker in a business the other day that read ” the only thing more overrated than owning your own business is natural childbirth”. I found it rather humorous.
