Ive been asked for a quote to do some commercial work. It is VC Tile and they want it swept, mopped and buffed, 2 x / month. They also want it stripped and waxed 2 x / year. I have always been way to high for these type of jobs and I was wondering if any of you pick up any of these jobs and if so, how much do you charge. So far I have been over 2 to 3 times more than what they want to pay. Any info would help. Is it worth it to do 1,617 sq. ft for $65 (Sweep, mop and buff) and $150 for the strip and wax?

I would have to say definitely not worth it. If my math is correct you are looking at $0.04 sq ft to sweep, mop and buff and $0.09 sq ft to strip and wax. Have you determined how many hours it will take to complete the job? You should determine all of your costs first (labor, product, time to allow stripping and then waxing per coat etc) and then build in your desire profit. Stripping and waxing is very time consuming.

I agree with you but sometimes it depends on previous care. If the floors have been maintained correctly then it is easier and faster to do the job. I have done some that were horrible and regretted taking the job. However the greatest expense is labor because of the time between coats. The products aren’t too bad. Anyway, thanks for your input.

I get .50 per sq ft for VCT that includes sweep, mop, strip, & 2 coats of wax. This is hard work and time consuming so make it worth your while. Then for buff outs depending on if its monthly or quarterly adjust your price to .15 – .25.
