How do you get an oily spot out of leather?

I do not know if this would be the correct procedure but my first thought was Dawn dishwashing detergent with warm water. Dry and treat with leather conditioner. Again, I have never tried this so proceed with caution. A professional answer would be better. 😀

    Thanks Brian,
I haven’t run into this problem, I just thought it was a great question to be answered.

i have found it very difficult to remove oil. i have had it lighten a little. the pre inspection is the place to be sure to go over this with the client . it ,like most stains will have better results if its fresh .

I have used TGP and dry solvent before as a last ditch effort to resurrect a dead couch, and it can work but it takes a lot of time and i’m sure it drys out the leather something fierce. i would never do it on any high vis area until all other avenues had been tried and the owner was informed and given clear probably written consent.

A couple years ago I had a spot on carpet, on pre inspection the customer told me it had been there 5 years it was a foot lotion that had spilled, after trying various things in the arsenal I tried blood remover and it pulled it, remember it is called Blood and protien remover! Apperantly the lotion was made from animal fats.
She was and still is a happy customer! I don’t know the effects it would have on leather but it might be worth a shot if you run across it.
