A customer sent me an email regarding a job I did about 7 weeks ago. It was an entertainment room in the basement. A low pile, commercial grade carpet. Carpet was installed by previous owner. He has owned the house for 3-4 years and never had the carpet cleaned. He admits the carpet looks a lot better yet his wife is unhappy and stating the carpet in no longer soft. They have an 8 month old baby and unhappy that the child is crawling on this “rough” carpet.

I have never received a complaint like this nor read anything on the boards about it.

    Any feedback?

We had this complaint once long ago. Guy liked to walk around on the carpet in bare feet and thought it felt stiffer after we cleaned it. Called us about a week later as he was out of town when we cleaned it. Per Cody’s advice, we went back and just resprayed carpet with water and urine control mixture and buffed (I think just one pass to pick up some moisture). Urine control falls in the tannin/acid rinse family so it should soften up carpet. I don’t remember how heavy we mixed it. Seemed to work and customer called us after we treated it (again was out of town) and was extremely happy. Also did this at a place I moved in to not long after I started this biz. Carpet was stiff and staticky (is that a word?). I think I cleaned that one with the 101 and added Urine control to so I could get the anti-static benefits that exist in the 101. Fixed the problem. Although, in your case, I don’t think I’ve ever had a low pile commercial grade carpet feel soft in the first place. Just my 2 cents.
