I have noticed over the years that many things seem to go in streaks. I don’t see a red dye stain for a month then I have 3 in 1 day. I won’t be in a certain neighborhood for weeks then I’ll be there twice in 3 days. I won’t have an upholstery job for a month then I get 2 in 2 days….well, you get the idea and I’m sure many out there have noticed similar streaks. Lately I am in a streak I want to end. At least once a week fo the last month I somehow end up talking to someone who sings the praises of HWE. I believe my responses are polite, professional and informative but sometimes these are Ford people at a Chevy convention and they are almost obnoxious about their “deep cleaning”.

I hate the phrase “deep cleaning”. How “deep” is carpet? Your not getting the pad wet if your cleaning carpet properly (outside of certain situations like pet accidents), so what in the carpet can’t our pads reach? Personally, I do just like you and explain our system. I also explain that I can do HWE but I don’t feel it’s necessary in most situations unless you want wet carpet for 6-12 hrs. I also like what someone else said once (Gordon?), if they can’t get all the water out of the carpet, what guarantee is there that they’re getting out all the dirt?

Overall though, if people are stuck on HWE, let them call a HWE guy (I loved your analogy about ford/chevy, very applicable). I had a guy last week ask if he could use his wet/dry shop vac and go over the carpet after we were done to get the remaining dirt out. I wanted to laugh and almost did. He thought there was still dirt in the areas where there was traffic wear, even after we went over it with a towel and showed him otherwise. Last time I checked, it is called traffic graying for a reason (ever seen gray dirt?). Oh, and the carpet hadn’t been cleaned in 8 yrs……….

I talked to a stanely steamer employee at the gas station the other day, and he said he used to work for Chem Dry. He said that SS process is horrible and that they have to re-do like 30 percent of there jobs. He also said that customers are always pissed off that it takes so long to dry.He wanted to know if I had a job opening when I told him about our process.

I hired an ex-ss employee for one week. It was “test drive” for both of us. He commented on how much time I would spend at a job but also how great everything looked when I was done. The thing that he could not beleive was the number of repeat customers we had in that week. So I had to explain to him that (extra time + quality work) = repeat customers.
I did not hire him because he did not want to work!

The small percentage of people that are stuck on HWE can stay there. I tell them that I gain the customers that my competitors are losing and that I have never had a dissatisfied customer.

    Okay, here’s the deal…
I had a large job going most of the day. The laundry mat could do the 4 loads, my home could only do one at a time. As I was picking up the cleaned pads, a HWE cleaner was doing his own laundry and said… “Oh, your just a surface cleaner.” I could have blew up on the guy but instead took the time to educate him. I said politely “If you think I’m a surface cleaner, you must admit to being a swamp cleaner.” He didn’t know how to respond to that so I help him out some and said “If your truck mount is so powerful, tell me, how can you remove the dirt and leave so much water?” By now he wished he had never met me so I made the following statement…
“Look I’ve been in the cleaning business for over 20 years. When I started out, I also did HWE, and they said the same (shoot from the holster) thing back then. I’ve been trained to do HWE and low moisture cleaning, Owned my own truck mount. There’s a lot of reasons I do low moisture cleaning.”
It’s great to be Heaven’s Best!
