I would like to put together a basic inventory of parts for dealing with equipment breakdowns and would like to know the most common parts that fail or wear out?.

Besides the usual small tool box, the part I always have is an extra belt for the vacuum. That said, today I found out I need a different part on hand. Replacement plug head for power cords. I recently replaced the base and handle on my Nobles buffer and it still needs some tweeking to get the handle to latch properly so I’ve been using my old Matador buffer. Well, it didn’t work at my first job yesterday morning. Had Nobles in truck and used it all day and wasn’t able to look at Matador last night. This morning, doing last room of first job and my Nobles buffer sparked on the internal black cable where it enters motor housing and it stopped working. Fun start to day. Had to extract last room with Ninja. Talked to Big John (and also some of my neighboring HB operators) and they all said the Matador has issues with plug head. I was able to replace it in between jobs and it’s working. So, I will now always have a spare plug head in my van, along with my volt meter (which is sitting in garage right now) as this appears to be something that can happen to any piece of equipment (vacuum, buffer, extractor). Easy fix if you have the parts. Now I know why whenever I call John with an equipment issue his first response is “grab your volt meter and test….” Thanks to those that helped me with this today. Having to extract 1500 sq ft and 2 sets of stairs with a Ninja on my next job would have sucked (no pun intended).

On/Off switches for every piece very important and cheap. As Dave mentioned, vac belts. Also, u-mate pump/motor, blower motor and 45 tool, power sprayer pump/motor and valve. These are the things that have failed for me. After 6 years, I can nearly put together an entire second set of equipment with my replacement part inventory. Just my way of staying in my comfort zone.

I just used the u-mate Friday for a job and the pump would not turn on. I have no idea what to do in the area below where the vacuum is located. Can I remove the 4 screws on the bottom and look for a fuse, or is that a a waste of time. Any recommendations at all?
I hate to buy a pump for no good reason.
Thanks,
Dave Dilts

There is no fuses in the machine. There are several things that could generate this problem. Don’t be afraid to look behind the cover, great place to start. Please be sure the machine is un-plugged while cover is off.1) Bad switch
2) wire connector broke or fell off switch
3) pump seized up
4) bad pressure switch on pump
5) obstruction in hose or nozzle
6) bad motorYou may want to call me or Big John to help diagnose the problem

I called John and he pretty much reiterated what you suggested.
After church I checked the sitch by placing leads on another switch. Turned on and a quick bump and blew the breaker. put another pump in and did the same thing..i checked all wiring and it all looks fine, a few rub marks, but appears to be in tact..
I will call you monday morning…unless you want to call me later….today. this blows my pea brain to pieces..
thanks.
