Greetings… I’m Patrick Toews, a fairly new operator out in Central California. Started in October of last year… and loving this so far.

I’ve experimented with different numbers of passes over the carpet, using different kinds of pads, using the dirt napper, etc. I’ve had jobs where I did only 3 passes in each room (for example, 1 side BBC, then both sides of woven turf) and others where after 14 passes I was still getting dirty pads. On that one, I finally stopped figuring I’d be there all day if I tried for a clean pad. The carpet was certainly cleaner after 14 passes, even if not perfect.

What are some of your “standard procedures” in terms of number of passes, which pad combos you use, etc? Do you have a “light clean” process vs. a “medium” or “heavy clean” standard process?

Also, I’d be interested in some of your standard solution mixes too.

    Thank you for your input.

    Patrick

I don’t use the BBC pad unless the carpet is in pretty bad shape. I use the WT exclusively as it absorbs more soil. The number of “passes” you do will definitely depend on the level of soil in the carpet. You’ll also come to learn that there are areas in a room that have hardly any soil but other areas such as the traffic areas will and will require more work. You may want to use your finishing towels on these areas. You should be using between 3-10 pads per room on the average sized room.

Remember 1st that you can’t clean a dry carpet, so once you have absorbed up all the dirty solution and the carpets have become nearly dry its not going to get any cleaner. So the number of pads depends on the amount of water used. (nylon carpets)

Yup… I’m not anywhere near 3-10 pads per room. I use dirtnapper with reg green stripe pad followed by reg drive plate w/woven turf on both sides for a regular sized room. Usually does well! One of the keys is to spend plenty of time vacuuming – don’t underestimate the effect of this. Also, depending on how bad it is may mean the use of pre-spray such as Fast Acting Enzyme. Nonetheless, you must also exercise patience and allow dwell time…. those cleaners need a little time to do their magic! Good luck and welcome to HB!!

Also while vacumming have your spotter bottle with you and prespray traffic areas and stains this saves u alota time letting that dwell time work with u instead of waiting on it.
