    In your area, what is the best form of advertising, one you wouldn’t do again, and why?

    The best form of advertising that works for me now is word of mouth. But I have been in business for close to 9 years. The first thing i did that worked real well was having the newspaper do an article on me. Lately I have done something that has worked well. I live in a pretty small town, The local car wash has a sign on the highway, that they rent out. They have 2 locations. For $270.00 I have traced $2478.00 in sales. This has been over the last 4 months.
    The worst thing i have done was the franchise express ads. Back when Cody first got hooked up with them . I spent something like $2000 on them and received 1 call.
    Next year I am going to go out on a limb and reduce the size of my yellow page ad by half. I feel that they haven’t been doing much for me at all. Barely breaking even.
    Over all Ibeleive that a steady presence in the newspaper during the busy season and a quarterly mailer to my existing customer base,along with the car wash sign and i will be good to go at less than I was spending on yellow pages.

    Word of mouth here and door to door commercial sales. I have recently made some commercial packets related to those on the HB ad’s website. Anyone interested, I would be more than happy to e-mail it to you. The Verizon yellow pages got us one call. I paid $375 a month for a quarter page ad. I got my money back from them as well. The commercial packets I made can be given to any business, restuarants, hotels, realtors, etc. The first packet I passed out was to a realtor. We received 4 jobs off the one packet. These packets will eat up your ink on your printer but $40 for ink and paper is a small exspense in relation to the jobs received. I have had others schedule and sent some proposals out as a result of the packets. Word of mouth and repeats are the best no doubt, but right now, the packets are kicking some a**. Hope all is well.

    Referrals from your new/existing clients seem to come more easily than “cold calling/mailing”.
    After I clean for someone I usually get them to fill out a referral list for me. Then I mail their friends and family a postcard letting them know that their friend or family member just had their carpets cleaned. And so on and so on. It’s “word of mouth” in black and white letters. People believe what they read moreso then what they hear. 😉

    I also send postcards around alot of the neighbors when I clean in nice area’s. You can mapquest and whitepages to get all this info. This seems to work pretty well too. If you were good enough to clean someone’s house in their neighborhood, then you/we might be good enough to clean their house as well. 🙂
