My wife and I are on a VERY tight budget and are looking for things to do in Vegas. We are most likely to go to Hoover Dam. That doesn’t seem too bad, and maybe CircusCircus, because it is free, but I was just wondering what some of you will be doing that is very economical and fun.

If you’ve never been and are on a budget, I recommend just walking the strip and checking out all the sights (casinos, shops, people watching,etc.). Most casinos have free evening “performances”. Treasure Island has a pirate show in the evenings out front of hotel, Mirage has a fire show in the evenings out front, Belagio has a water show, Excalibur has a show out front. All of these are free and can be cool/fun to watch. Insides of casinos are pretty amazing as well. If you want to spend money, the other shows (Magic shows, Wayne Newton, one of the many Cirque de Sole shows, etc.) are not cheap, and often times require calling in advance. Also, check out some websites on vegas and they should give you some options, or call the hotel ahead of time for options/suggestions.

Keep in mind that with few exceptions, eating out in Vegas can be real expensive…
🙂January 23, 2007 at 1:58 am #148561HBplantcityflaParticipantWe will be there from the 30th at around 2 until the 2nd in the morning. Not much time, I know. Aside from going to the grocery store, are there affordable places to eat at? Honestly I have been there but only to Henderson,, and we never went to the Strip. Also has anyone been on the roller coaster at New York New York? Looks cool but I couldn’t find anything out about online.

I’d like to go to Hoover Dam as well, any of those interested in going, get w/ me once we get down there, and we’ll coordinate getting a group together. I like the idea of just walking the strip.
January 23, 2007 at 3:40 pm #148566Newsletter WriterSpectatorHere are some things you can do in Vegas that are FREE
1- White Tiger Exhibit at the Mirage-FREE
2- Dancing Fountains and the Bellagio- FREE
3- Lion Habitat at the MGM Grand- FREE
4- Flaming Volcano at the Mirrge- FREE
5- Treasure Island pirate ship- FREEI agree with the other posters that just walking around the strip and seeing all the casions is amazing. Many of them are over the top and fun to look at. While you are wandering around, many have things to do that are inexpensive. . .you just have to see what each casion has to offer.

The 2 times my husband and I went to Vegas, we were starving students and had NO budget. We ate lunch each day at the In-n-Out Burger that is right near the strip and would try to find a cheap buffet for the evening. . .

January 24, 2007 at 4:11 am #148570kw4662ParticipantI rode the roller coaster at New York. It was fun but over quickly even by roller coaster standards. Also, I believe it was $10-$20 per person a couple of years ago. I did it because I didn’t think I’d be back, and still think it was worth it.
Stop and see the Bellagio Fountain as you walk the strip, it is truely wonderful, I think they have it every 15 min.
As for cheap food, I never had much luck with that. But in my opinion Vegas has the best dining in the country. If you have enough in your budget for one nice dinner $50-$70 you will be treated like a king at any decent restaurant I’ve been to about 5, rainforrest cafe jumps out as my most memorable. Look for seafood it rivals coastal areas.
My wife and I enjoyed walking the strip checking out the nice hotels – New York New York (across the street from Excaliber), Paris, Ceasar’s Palace (where my wife and I bought our wedding rings), The Venetian (has a river with gondola rides)The Mirage, etc.
By the way the slots pay better in the older hotels i.e. Tropicana if that’s your thing.
I know alot of you guys from the north will laugh but it will be colder than you expect, I’m bringing a coat. Oh yea, cabs are expensive.
Hope this helped, look forward to seeing you all next week.
