Has anyone tried Angieslist? I was contacted by a sales rep and was just wondering if anyone has tried it.
November 6, 2006 at 3:37 pm #147955hbottumwaParticipantI’ve never heard of it. Could you discribe it?
November 6, 2006 at 10:27 pm #147956HB2003ParticipantDitto…I have no idea what it is either.
November 7, 2006 at 2:52 am #147957AnonymousInactiveI haven’t tried it, however, I’ve seen a TV commercial for it. The commercial obviously targets potential customers. It appears to be a place where customers can place comments about their experience with service companies.
Based on the way the TV ad goes, I am surprised that they have sales reps calling one of us. It seems as though our customers should be able to add their comments about us without us paying to be listed.

January 15, 2007 at 10:49 pm #147960pachecoParticipantI am calling them tomorrow..looks promising. Thanks
February 10, 2007 at 10:40 pm #147961Bret WootonParticipantI’ve been somewhat involved. It’s a referral network that homeowners use for contractors and service types of businesses. Angies list touts itself to be completely consumer driven with no advertising (endorsments) money skewing the results. I had someone give a lukewarm review of us on the site. It turned out that this person wasn’t a customer of ours (Maybe of a previous operator). The nice part is that I was able to write a rebuttal to the review explaiing this fact. I also have had great reviews on Angies list.

They do not require referrals but you can get reviews of your services. Be careful with both of these referral services because a customer can put a review for another Heaven’s Best operator in your section, if you live in a big enough city. Another thing about Kudzu.com is that there are about 300 carpet cleaners listed compared to Angieslist’s 20.
October 14, 2008 at 11:37 pm #147963AnonymousGuestHello fellow HB people,
Does anybody have any current feedback on Angie List.
I am considering it as well as Service Magic.
With Angies list as well as any advertising source that encourages and posts customer response you have to make damn sure you satisfy the customer.
(Not that I don’t aim to all please customers)
I think this is a service used by the upper end clients that like some referral point for service providers.
I’ll post more when I learn more.
Also please let me know any current opinions of service magic.October 15, 2008 at 1:16 am #147964tbulleighParticipantWe have been paying for top placement on Anglie’s List for the last 3 or 4 months. It has not resulted in a lot of dollars yet. It takes time because you have to build up referrals from your customer’s. They HAVE to go back on Angies List and Rate you. If they do not… it does not help you any.. The goal is to have a large number of good rateings and more people will be likely to go with you. I am still working on building my # of ratings. We have cleaned for a number of people that have found us on Anglie’s List…. but did not go back and rate us (even when I asked them to) But I talked to Matt from San Antionio and he says he gets LOTS of biz from Angie’s List. It is worth a try … does not cost much.. Hope that helps.
BridgetOctober 15, 2008 at 11:28 am #147965pachecoParticipantApparently someone had reviewed us with no name and we got a nice job off of it several months ago. None since….but no cost. I hate the concept and will never join it at all. We have no control over the statements made by others about us…not great.
Their commercials are all over the TV here. I thought they were everywhere.

A lot of sites like these will pull your information from other sources, like google local or yahoo local. Once your information is out, it will often get aggregated to a number of other websites. Sometimes its better to stake your claim than it is to just let this happen. I’m not sure if that is the case with angie’s list but it is for many online free listings.
October 15, 2008 at 4:10 pm #147967tbulleighParticipantFor those of you that are interest in Angie’s List, I just want to clear up how it works. A customer must recommend you as a “contractor” that is what they call you…. and once you have been listed and your services rated positive.. you will be contacted by Angie’s List to let you know that someone has rated you… only then will you be offered a chance to place an ad. All this does is move your name to the top of the list when someone searches for Carpet Cleaning in your area. I am at the top of the list for my area… but I do not have that many ratings. The ratings I have are all very positive and I would love for more people to rate me. I am not worried about what they will say b/c I do follow up calls with every cleaning and I know when someone is not happy so I can try to make it right. I like this idea where people share their good vendors with one another. I use this service and think it works. The customers that use it are high end and are willing to pay for great service. Just my thoughts.
October 28, 2008 at 7:43 pm #147968GA18ParticipantHello all…Angie’s List is our top referral program. We are currently the top rated carpet cleaner on the list in San Antonio, I am proud to say. Last year we won their Super Service Award too. We work hard to maintain a top rating and as such, we generate between 3-6 jobs a week from it. I spend $130 a month for an ad I run that offers a 15% discount to Angie’s List clients and it pays for itself each month with the first job we book. Think of it as a referral program that your clients use. They rate your service, along with general comments. Ratings are for professionalism, punctuality, responsiveness, quality, price and an overall grade (A-F). This gives us instant validation as a reputable cleaner and we get a higher level of client and a higher price. These clients typically do not haggle, they want great service and a quality product. Be prepared to be rated by your clients, which should be a good thing. If you can get involved (you have to be selected), I suggest you go for it. Best money ever spent!
