Just remember the type of soap and amount affects the results. If they spill a lot of liquid soap that is meant to suds up a lot (see shampoo, laundry detergent, etc.), and it gets into the pad, you can spend hours trying to get it all out to no avail. If you are going to attempt it, agree with the OD/Water route. If a lot was spilled, make sure it is dry and you may want to attempt to remove mainly what was spilled on the carpet fibers themselves (i.e. don’t oversaturate).
