If you have an fortunate oportunity to clean a really bad carpet that should be torn out and burned, RUN, do not walk, away from it. Even if the customer begs you to clean it after you have told them it will not look good, the urine smell will not go away, and they will not be happy with the result. You will not be doing them or yourself any favors by booking the job. I had one previously and did a second two weeks ago. Neither one turned out well and the customer was less than satisfied, even after explaining to them that there was no garrentee how it would look. The pain in the rear is not worth the hassle or the money. I told my wife to slug me if I should do this ever again.

Agreed! I rarely do any apartment work for this reason – it just isn’t worth it! Sometimes it really is best to just go ahead & refer them to a local steam cleaner “because this is one instance where their process would probably be better suited”! And then, RUN!!!! I also don’t want to subject the equipment to some places! ha Luckily though I’ve only had to walk on a couple of calls!

    DITTO!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have walked into several homes where the stench from cat pee was terrible!!! This coming from a guy who smelled bodies roasting on the ground in 1970, SEA… lye was covered that up.

Also, restaurants can be terrible…grease and oil are sometimes well hidden in carpeting. I do not waste my time on them anymore, period!!! Unles they are on a very regular cleaning schedule and 5 star, like weekly or so, I would run away from any average or less than average restaurant. Lots of work and they nearly ruin your pads.

‘Tis the season for pet pee!
Seems everyone has been too busy to take care of Fidoos’ needs this summer. I’ve been running into swamps of urine lately. If I have time and the customers doesn’t mind paying, I get to work. Last week I cleaned 3 rooms, 500 sqft, for $650 in 4 hours. Later this week, 4 rooms and steps for $700. They think this is a bargain after pricing new carpet. If I don’t feel comfortable that I can acheive success, I walk away. I do agree that crappy HUD apt. jobs are better left alone, but if I turned away everthing that was pissed on, I think I would have to look for another PT job!! Loren, I agree. I have turned down the ones that should be cleaned w/ a $3 gal. of gas and a match. Dave, right on, restaurants are no good.

If the only holding together the rug is the dirt and stains, bail out !

I am partially going against the grain on this one. When I recieve calls that have to do with pet urine, I will usually ask lots of questions. Like first of all, does the smell knock you off your feet, or are there just 1-2 spots. If it looks like extensive urine, I will always refer them out to Power Clean, local friend. BUT, if it us just really dirty with traffic wear, I will usually go ahead and do it. When I am done, It usually still looks like crap to me but the customer has lived with it for so many years that any iimprovement is just wonderful. In the end I am still a hero at the end of the day. Plus it gives me experience using some of my products that I don’t use very often.

ok this time of year is much slower than spring, summer ,fall,i get that.but the worst jobs always seem to be at this time.why, who knows.i have not swept carpet since last january o8.well this last 3 weeks i have had to sweep and go around picking up anything that would plug both vacuums .hair, that when you rubbed your shoe on carpet, would ball up any spot u picked.my vacuum burnt up finally and i maintance it regularly.used a shop vac on rest, with broom.i had to borrow shop vac,i carry broom and dust pan, maybe start carrying shop vac to.normally would not touch these jobs any other time.went through 5 gallons of pet enzyme.not the same job at least.i usually never use that much in one year.in most cases it just isn’t worth it,but when its 3 degrees out and foot of snow to boot well have to get dirty.i really cant stand it but i do it and know the day will end,not soon enough though.i guess it makes up for the cake walks huh.vacuum smelled like ship also.just tore it apart and fixed it.just when u think u seen it all,u haven’t! im wondering what’s next, lol,i think.
