In the July news letter, Cody said that only 2 numbers could be on the new vans. I own one area that covers 4 counties. I had 4 different numbers (local to each county), now I will need to change. Does anyone have experience with 800 #s and where did you get them? Do you have a menu with your 800# or does it ring directly to you? We are looking at a virtual office number but wanted to get some feedback from you all.

    Thanks,
    Jamie Calloway

    Jamie,
You can go to http://www.kall8.com and set up 800 numbers. Their rates are quite reasonable. It will ring directly to you if you want.

    Jamie,
Each operator will have a limited amount of space. It can be taken up in a few bullet points or in phone numbers or a combination of both. We want to keep a clean look on the Van. The size of the extra phone numbers or bullet points will be worked out within the next few weeks.

I have mixed feelings about the importance of phone numbers on the van. I have no way of proving this, but I would guess that the amount of people that get your number off the van is very small. On the street, your van is moving or the people going by are moving. Can they remember your number or write it down at that time? I know I can’t. I do believe they will remember our name (Heaven’s Best) and areas served and be able to reference it in the phone book or internet. Just my two cents.

Thanks for all of the reply’s. I was wondering if anyone uses an 800 number. If so did it hurt or help the business. Our area is very close knit, and rural. I was wondering if the number made a difference with local people wanting to use a local business. In other words we have a large Florida, Georgia, SC summer population I think they will call. I wondered if the local people would call also.
    Thanks,

Our phone number on the van paid for the vinyl many times over. I have had no less than a dozen calls off the number and almost all of them while I was in the van and they were close…made joke of it, since we forward the bus number to my cell.

Have had the same exact experience with neighbors that Patrick has had as well on several occasions.

My personal preference is no 800, due to the non-local nature of it. Cody should probably understand this and make an allowance. Cutting off your nose to spite your face makes no sense at all…and just having one 800 number makes you look like ServiceMaster, SS, ChemDry, etc, and that is not necessarily a good thing for us. (Just my opinion)

I also prefer to not use an 800 # for the same reason – people aren’t as excited around here about ‘city folks’ ha! They would rather know it is a local operator – not someone whom they may never see again out of the city. I have also had more than one call on the road while someone was driving behind or saw at a stop light. I also do not have a ‘ground’ line – it is a permanent call-forward to my cell phone. This is a lot cheaper, and you’re still in the yellow pages. My cell plan is unlimited incoming calls so it works great!

    Jamie, bubby o’l pal!

Just buy four vans! Ha Ha

Instead of An 800# get a call forwarding # for each area. Some call it a market exspantion line. Makes their local number call forwarding to your main line. Most places in cost $16 plus 3 cents a minite plus taxes billed monthly to your phone bill. If it’s long distance It’s the long distance fee and the 3 cents. It’s pretty inexpensive. The main thing is to have your customers call a local #. They feel good about that, far above (800) #’s When it came to carpet cleaners they mainly will call someone local. Many have gone out of business thinking a customer will call someone out of local area. You also get a listing in the local phone book. You can also list in your case, all four #’s in your adverising. It makes you look really big!

Thanks for the input guys. When I buy those 3 new vans I will just include 1 number on each because I will have so much business they never leave the county. I like the local numbers also.
