Has anyone come across spilled oil from the scented plug-in air freshners? We have seen it a few times and it appears to alter/remove the color in the carpet. Anyone else seen this, and if so, any luck with it?
I’ve seen it a few times and don’t bother with it anymore. I tried getting it out the first couple of times with no luck.
Before doing anything be sure that it is scented oil spill. Scrub with a dry towl and see if any color comes out. If not then dampen the area a little with water and then scrub again. If color continues coming then I wouldn’t bother. If not, then just TGP or Dry Solvent should do the trick. If not, then atleast you made the customer happy by trying.

Customers have told us what the spots were each time (they were also right next to the wall directly below an outlet). Each time no color transfered to a towel after attempts with TGP, solvent, Pro spotter, etc. I’m with Ron that we warn them it is not going to come out, but we do try anyway just in case. Post was more of a warning to all that haven’t come across one of these, although if someone did have the magic potion it would have been an added bonus.
I’m not going to spend the time cleaning a spot that I know won’t come out. Sometimes educating the customer isn’t always what they want to hear.
