Has anyone ever tried replacing their conquest bag without buying the whole assembly (i.e. just buying the replacement bag itself)? If so, any quick tips or recommendations on how to do it without breaking any of the plastic pieces? I think I see how it should come apart in theory, but doesn’t seem to be cooperating. Hoover’s website is a joke, as are the instructions that come with the vacuum. Am I just an idiot (don’t respond) and am missing something?

I replace the bag approx. every other month. I believe the part that you are fighting with is the bag “flange”. This is the plastic ring that fits on the inside of the bag, used to fasten the bag to the bag assembly. When you by a new “bag only”, the flange does not come with. To remove the flange from the old bag, hold bag upside down, with a thumb on one side and a finger on the opposite, grasp the flange in the center of each of the longer sides (between the bag and flange), squeezing inward. Hold the bag and push the flange down into the bag. It works best to try to push one of the narrow ends down first. Always observe the assembly before disassembly begins. To reinstall, put flange down in bag, put one narrow end in place, then pull the other end up in place. To order a new flange, in the comments box of the HB order form, write Stock #98, flange for vacuum bag. Hope this helps! It is sometimes hard to explain all details in writing. The conquest is a great piece of equipment ,,..the bag is just a genuine pain …I don’t bother with it any more (replacing it that is) I Remove the dirt cup and find a good area to let it run without the cup for several minutes..The bag is something we just have to put up with..Maybe a call to Hoover R&D would help ??

I’m seriously thinking of changing the conquest over to a replaceable paper bag system rather than the dustcup system that comes standard. The company has them available but you have to ask for them. Should eliminate the dusty cloth bag problem. Has anyone else changed over to a replaceable bag system? Any disadvantages other than having to buy repacable bags.

I hated the dirt cup and have replaced mine with a full bag system. They come with reusable inner bags that work great and on carpets that are very bad I replace it with a disposable bag. I also have more expensive allergen filtration bags I can use when someone has allergies. It also seems that the I have more power with the full bag. I’ll never go back to the dirt cup.

I have recently replaced my original setup with the replaceable paper bag liner set up. No more dust! So far I love it. My main concern was; would I lose significant suction power . . . I don’t believe I have. The cost of bags vs. time I pay an employee to clean them up, is basically a wash. The amount of dust in my garage is almost nothing now. The only drawback I have found, is that it won’t lay down as far to vacuum under the beds. Other than that, I love it.
