October 7, 2005 at 7:59 am #145325AnonymousInactiveI just tell people that pet urine comes out of the carpet about 50% of the time with our normal cleaning process. If the color doesn’t come out with then we can do a pet urine extraction. I charge a minimum of $75. I’ve charged $500 before. I make it worth my while if I’m going to do it.
October 7, 2005 at 12:10 pm #145326AnonymousInactiveIt seems that cats normally pee in a corner. I will pull the carpet back, cut the contaminated pad out, treat the wood and carpet with fresh scent, treat the carpet top and bottom with enzyme, extract excess moisture, then install new pad. This process seems to work well.
October 7, 2005 at 11:31 pm #145327AnonymousInactiveDefinitely want to undersell and hopefully over deliver on pet problems. I would love to not clean up after all animals, but have a tough time letting another cleaner into our customer’s house. Same goes for upholstery. Felt gross after leaving first job today after cleaning up all the dog spots. I’m curious what everyone is charging for pet problems. Are you charging “X” amount per room you clean that has pet issues? Or, are you charging “X” amount per pee spot and “Y” amount for the poo? Or, do you just wing it on a case by case basis as we all know that no 2 animal jobs are alike? What on average do you charge to clean 2 rooms (pet enzyme, extract, deodorize/fresh scent) that have 3-6 softball size spots in each room? Brian S., roughly what are you charging to pull pad/carpet,etc. ? I know we don’t charge enough for pet problems and are trying to get better about it. Tough part is that we often show them the bill with the pet stains included, then find another 20-30 more while we’re vacuuming/cleaning (like today where the little guy pee’d on every furniture leg in the house, plus under the clothes in the closet). Tough to catch all of them on the pre-inspection sometimes, especially when they’re hiding under furniture or the junk on the floor that the customer is moving out of the way. Hate to add on more $$ after you show them the bill as you don’t want to appear as a bait/switcher, but we do have to get paid for our work. No win situation for everyone, but one of the necessary evils.
October 8, 2005 at 12:38 am #145328AnonymousInactiveIf I have to apply the PE I charge $75. That will usually get the customer about 3 softball size spots. I will charge $25 per same size spot after 3.
October 8, 2005 at 1:31 am #145329AnonymousInactiveI am very inconsistant charging for urine. It all depends on the overall job value and the customers attitude. As a rule, if I like the job, the customer may get a few spots done for free, but most of the time I charge $5 – $10 per spot. With large problems, I estimate the amount of enzyme it will take, using a charge of around $120 per 2.5 gallon jug, again, looking at the overall job. I poke around with my detector B4 I quote to get a ballpark number for the customer, letting them know that there may be more after moving furniture. I very seldom run into poo. Hope this helps. Signed: pet pee boy. (a name I received from Ferris)
October 8, 2005 at 7:30 pm #145330HBPuyallupParticipantOver half of our customers have pets and most of those have pet problems. It is not fun to clean them up but if we didn’t we would probably lose have of our customers because of this. We charge by the amount of time and by how much cleaner we use. I’ve heard of people having a minium of $125 on pet problems. Sometimes I love the pets because they keep us coming back more often that if they didn’t have pets. I agree with the Devlin brothers I don’t like another carpet cleaner coming into a customers house.
